Suggestion: Restrict Topic Creation

You may want to consider removing the ability for Iron Recruits to create new topics in the forums.

Yeah, I know it sounds a little elitist, but I think it would significantly help clean up the Halo 4 forums. A lot of troll and flamebait topics are created by Recruit Iron grades, many with less than 10 posts.

Once they get promoted (Recruit Bronze or Silver is all I’m talking), and have gotten the gist of this place and have some input under their belt, then they can contribute topics.

Agree? Disagree?

It works well for NeoGAF, but they’re a closed-membership community, so your everyday gamer doesn’t post there (at least, not often), and I have no problem with it.

Waypoint, on the other hand, I think it’d do more harm than good. Many newer members will post here only if they have questions, and it’s tough to do so if they can’t even start a thread to ask them!

Exactly. While some lower-rank members may create threads that are deliberate flamebait, it’s generally not the case. From my experience, most lower-rank members create threads to ask questions - many of them seem to make an account on the Waypoint forums just so they can create a thread to seek help.

While I agree that it would slightly clean up the forums, not to mention emphasize member activity, I also feel that it would be more harm than good.

The best you guys can do is to just report threads/posts that break the rules for a monitor to take a look at.

Restricting posting privileges won’t work in this type of forum :-/

Unless you end up getting banned of course…

I have to agree with this, I’ve noticed users that are the rank of Recruit and below ask more questions about various things (i.e. How do we use signatures, why can’t I view my own threads, and 1-50 not coming back in Halo 4). In my experience users are acually trying trying to find out about how the forums work and about Halo 4. Of course there is the occasional person who will write something insulting. But most Recruits are very friendly.

Actually, it sounds very elitist. Sure, we get some trolls from time to time, and some people who aren’t up on their netiquette, but the number of viable threads that are produced far outnumber the trolls.

This is supposed to be an open, welcoming community. Restricting the posting ability of any newcomer is exactly the opposite of that. You have to take the good with the bad.
