When Halo 4 started leaking onto the internet a few weeks before launch, everyone’s Private Message Preferences was changed to ‘Receive Private Messages from Buddies’ to prevent spoilers being sent via PMs.
However, once Halo 4 came out, this setting was never changed back, and as of now, any new user who signs into Halo Waypoint has it set to Buddies only.
This completely makes PMing an unviable option for many, including myself, as many don’t even know this setting exists, and topics have cropped up in the past explaining how the PM system wasn’t working, but in reality, the recipient of the PM has their PM settings set to Buddies only unknowingly.
There is no reason for this option to still be the default anymore, especially when people are openly discussing spoilers for Halo 4 in the appropriate sections.
If a change like this is to happen again, all users should receive some sort of notification about it, not one topic in the Halo Waypoint section which wasn’t even pinned and wasn’t on page one within a few days.

Yeah… and I don’t think they have a pop up going “Hey, review your form profile and PM settings before getting started.”

Most people would likely opt out and not bother as well. Everything should be made as user-friendly as possible whenever possible.

I know, some people just don’t like looking over their options, they like having it already set up for them.
I think this is a great suggestion.
It has caused me a lot of problems recently where people have contacted me requesting info on double XP matches or gifting donations (with regards to a particular topic I’m involved with at the moment) and when I’ve spent some time typing out a PM to inform them of instructions with regards to claiming the double XP, or a PM to thank them for their donation, they’re just getting auto-deleted by the system, meaning I’ve wasted my time and I have no other way of contacting them!
At least change it so that when you attempt to PM someone like that the system tells you straight away that the PM is not possible due to their inbox settings - this would save me a lot of wasted time.
Ideally, just change it back for everyone like Moa suggested though.
