Suggestion for Halo 5

Forge is something I’ve loved since its debut in Halo 3. The community has created some amazing maps over the years, and they’ve been a blast to play on. However, it’s pretty difficult to get your map exposure and feedback. With Halo 5’s release and new forge, I’d love to have a map testing playlist, similar to the one featured in Far Cry 3.

“Once you’re done, publish your map for the community to play and rate it. Try, test, modify and improve it in order to reach the gold tier status and see your creation curated and appear alongside official Ubisoft content. This will ultimately be giving you, the players, an infinite source of content to play in.”

This would accelerate the process of adding new maps into playlists, and help forgers get their maps the recognition they deserve.

I like it.

I have a million ideas for Halo 5, but I see this suggestion crop up a lot. A custom games playlist exclusively with maps and game-modes made by the community? How exactly would you implement that?

THIS

I would really love to see a mm playlist for
user created maps, sure some of the maps would be trash and maybe even be non functional but then we could just down vote it to get it removed from the test playlist
and maybe have a vote to skip map option in the pause menu mid-game.

Fc3 gave people the ability to rate it 1 to 5 stars and then provide feedback on what was wrong with the map that would go to the creator.

Like I mentioned, it would be similar to the FC3 community playlist. You upload your map for testing, people play on it and rate your map. There would be tiers based on the rating system; bronze, silver, and gold. Gold rated maps would be put into regular matchmaking.

Would it hold up against the millions of maps and gametypes being uploaded to File Shares? I feel like we might need something a little more complicated, but idk.

Every map in your fileshare wouldn’t be auto-loaded into the playlist, you would have to manually do that. The goal would be to introduce a competent filtering system, like the tiered system FC3 had.

@L377UC3
Have you ever played farcry 3?
When you would search for a match in the user created playlist it would find the map then install it (took maybe 30 seconds max to install on each persons console depending on their Internet speed) then the match would start. At the end you could rate it and leave feedback and choose to keep the map or uninstall it.

An example on it being not a big deal to need to install the map each time is, How long does it take to install a Halo forged map from someone’s fileshare? Not long at all. And it can always be deleted if you’re worried about space (halo forged maps don’t have a history of taking up alot of space) if ubisoft can do it 343 can.

Well cool. Like I said, it sounds like a fantastic idea, but I just want to make sure we have the right architecture in place so we don’t clog up the filters with the influx of maps attacking the system. That’s all. If other games have made it work then we’re golden.

This idea is fantastic OP. I really hope they do something like this.

Thanks for the support!

Oh, I thought you were going to ask for suggestions for H5. That way I could just drop the usual “No Sprint” argument. I like that argument. Especially since people just accept it now.

I don’t see 343 doing anything similar to what you are saying. It’s a good idea, I’ll give you that, and I would love to see something that resembles what you described. But… out of all of the things Bungie put into Halo. Theater, Forge, Matchmaking, Unique Game Types etc… how many have 343 improved? The answer is 0. Forge in H4 was worse than forge in Reach. Theater in H4 was almost an exact rip from H3, except you couldn’t watch with people together. You had to just hit play simultaneously on your own, so no improvement there. How many gametypes made a return from Reach or H3 into H4? There was no Headhunter, no VIP, no Assault. How many new gametypes were added? Dominion? Or is dominion just a glorified version of KOTH with capturing bases? How was the Matchmaking system? It was a strait rip from Reach. Search a playlist, then vote for a map. Even MCC has the exact same system. How about H4s awesome UI system? Reach had the best UI system and 343 seems to ignore that because H4 had the worst UI in all the Halos.

343 literally innovates nothing. Everything they do is a copy of someone elses work. Whenever they try to innovate, they just mess it up. I’m not saying they never have good ideas, because SpOps was a good idea, but that was on paper. It just didn’t work in execution. They made it boring by making us play the same maps over and over and run back and forth on them while Palmer and others exchanged terrible dialogue. No one would find that fun.

People saying that H5 is an innovative game… What is so innovative about it? Adding in SS? That’s been done in other games, so it’s a copy. It just has Halo guns now. Ground Pound? That was in Crysis. Thrusters? That has been in other games. Sprint. Other games. Spectator Mode. Many other games for years. There is nothing innovative about H5 in any sort of way. I bet Forge will be the same Forge we had in Reach or H4. Maybe new pieces, cool, but that’s going to be it. They’ll add scripting and whatnot, just like in H2A, maybe some skin pallates or something people have been asking for, but they can’t even do a simple “Copy/Paste” option in Forge. Things that are simple in any other editor. I really with 343 was actually innovative instead of copy cats. They haven’t added anything exciting to the game. Maybe it’s new to Halo, but none of it is innovative.

Literally the best thing they added to H5 is Spectator Mode. It wasn’t even finished for the Beta, but if it is indeed a true spectator mode, then that will actually help the game when it comes to eSports. Other than that, nothing they’ve added to H5 will help keep the game afloat after two weeks when the rest of the xmas rush games start coming out.

Well, I appreciate the lengthy reply. You’re right that 343 has a bit of a dodgy track record. But, isn’t this the perfect time to turn things around? It might be wishful thinking on my part, but I hope they do attempt to innovate in H5. I think if enough community members back something, they will at least look into it.
Also, agreed about no sprint being a good suggestion.

They look into it, but they can’t even get the mechanics of what people want after having it shouted at them from the rooftops. Sprint has always been the most hated mechanic in Halo since Reach. It has received the most backlash, it has done more harm than good, and at this point, they don’t really care because they want to make a Halo game that has their spin on it. The only things they put in are what have been tried and true in other franchises. Spectator Mode. ADS. Movement Enhancements.

People have been asking for simple Copy/Paste in Forge for years. YEARS. Since before H4. It’s still not there. People have been asking for a complete terrain editor. It’s still not there. Other games already have these things. FarCry’s Forgey Thing is an all out terrain editor. It’s not like 343 doesn’t have access to people with the technology to do these things. Project Spark is as advanced as I’ve seen on a console. If something similar isn’t in H5, then we know they don’t really listen/care what people are really asking for. Heck… People just want to play as Elites… So far, we don’t see any indication that Elites are going to be playable at all. It’s possible, but come on. Make the people who actually buy your game happy for more than the Honeymoon Phase of the games release.

I wish they were innovative. Then we could finally have our unique Halo back. A game that actually has something before another game, not 3-5 years afterwards.

Yeah, I’m just hoping for the best and trying to do my part to make a change. Will it matter? Probably not, but I might as well try.

that sounds great
