suggestion for co-op/ custom spartans

quick, small suggestion here. how about when playing co-op players 2-4 play as their custom spartan from multiplayer as a spartan 4 support team while player 1 remains chief?

This actually seems like a great idea. Though, likely you will be playing as Blue Team.

Totally support this. I’d see it as just some Spartans from infinity as backup.

sounds like it could be fun

I like the idea, but what would be cool is like 4 different variants of teams for each mission. Like, one mission John leads Blue Team, one mission Fred leads three S-IV’s, next mission John leads three marines.

do you mean the extra players would play as marines or are these squads like halo 5’s squad system that stay with you throughout the game?

Agreed. I’ve been saying this from the start. It’s not important, and I wouldn’t complain if they didn’t do this, but that’s the best way to do co-op in Halo from now on in my opinion. There doesn’t even need to be a canonical explanation for it. Just don’t show players 2 to 4 during the cutscenes. It would also be great if they could add drop-in-drop-out co-op, but I understand the complications. If it’s not worth it then it’s not worth it.

Both to be honest.

Well playing as marines in some missions might have complications. For one, they don’t have shields. Player one would be more powerful than players 2-4 and that would make which ever missions that had that undesirable for co-op. And as far as I’m aware a vast majority of the fan base didnt like the whole halo 5 squad system so I dont see 343 pulling that again. And personally I wasn’t to fond of not having any solo missions.

I’ve a better idea.
343i have said before that the multiplayer for the Halo series is like a Holodex so maybe in a way the campaign can be too.
So campaign 1st play-through would be all players be Chief by default or some Elites, maybe general basic marines. (So this would be canon)
Then in the 2nd play-through people would drop into the campaign to play as their custom characters (anything), then they play the mission like a simulation for tactical training reasons for new Spartans just like how Starfleet recruits in Star Trek are trained with possible scenario’s like the Kobayashi Maru, obviously the game would pretend the custom player is still the ‘Chief’. Sort of like how in Reach…Rookie was 1 person with an armour set, yet people replayed the campaign with completely different armour sets and it would explain why Reach had people using custom armours too.

I don’t have a problem with multiple MCs running around, because it doesn’t need to be explained more then just allowing people to have fun playing the game together. No in-game explanation is needed. I don’t mind OP idea, I just don’t mind multiple MCs for co-op either.

That being said, playing as Arbiter was a great in-game explanation for co-op, but in my experience, myself, and the person I played with, there was always a tiny, tiny bit of disappointment in being Arbiter, rather then a copy of MC.

That disappointment isn’t there in Reach, because everyone gets to be their own Spartan, even though it isn’t MC. I also imagine it isn’t there for H5 co-op, but I can’t say, because I’ve yet to play it co-op.

Regarding cut-scenes, it’s always a bit disappointing to go through a level and not have your character acknowledged in the cut-scenes (Reach for example). Let me qualify that, by saying only if your character isn’t just a copy of MC. If co-op is just multiple MCs, then cutscene inclusion doesn’t matter, but if the co-op characters are unique, like Arbiter or your custom Noble Six, then inclusion is really nice-yes, multiple Noble Sixs would like acknowledgement in the cutscenes! Yet it didn’t seem to matter for Rookie in ODST.

Hm, strange and more complicated then I thought.

I’d prefer if it stays Blue Team/Osiris or whoever is relevant to the campaign at hand. I play Halo because it’s fun of course, but I receive some level of satisfaction from the story elements being represented in the gameplay. Having multiple “Noble 6’s” wasn’t weird to me because it can just be explained away as one of the other dozens of Spartan IIIs who were planetside during the Battle of Reach.

I like my custom Spartan, so I understand where you’re coming from. Being able to be my custom Spartan is definitely an element of enjoyment I get from playing Spartan Ops and Firefight. But I’d just rather the story gameplay remain relevant to the story, and I love Blue Team in particular, so I’d love to see them over my own personal Spartan IV anyday.

Makes it interesting.

I would love that but I don’t know how that would work

It would work like reach except player one would be chief. No changes in game mechanics, just a visual change
