I tried to suggest this idea when Halo: Infinite was announced, but was interfered with.
Basically I think the title ‘Infinite’ should be replaced because I think it derives soley from the ‘Infinity’.
I do not think that evolving Halo’s story around the infinity is a good thing. It doesn’t matter if it’s the biggest ship in the UNSC, it doesn’t need to be the centre of attention or the star of the show simply for that reason.
Having the Infinity centre around Halo 5’s plot actually hurt the story in some way. I believe Halo 5 should not have had the Infinity to begin with (just like Arbiter not being in Halo 4) because it wasn’t necessary. Even Cortana asking “where is the Infinity” shows that 343 want more attention on this ship, and I think that’s harmful.
I believe Halo: Infinite needs to change it’s title to avoid for the story to not around the Infinity. Perhaps the Infinity will actually play a good role this time in Halo: Infinite throughout the whole story and I support that, just like it did with Halo 4. But the difference is the Infinity in Halo 4 ‘added’ to the story a lot and wasn’t the centre of attention. Just imagine if Halo 4 was all about the story of the Infinity. (It did have it’s own little story which wad cool, but it wasn’t obsessive like H5).
One more thing, if Infinite marks the beginning of lack of numbers in the titles (6,7,8) I am predicting the new Halo Era of the Assassin’s Creed style of titles. From now on, and this is my opinion is a bad thing, Halo titles will be consistent to Assassin’ Creed titles.
Others may say “we don’t want Halo to be like Final Fantasy going all the way to 15”. Well I say I don’t want Halo to be like Assassin’s Creed. Next thing you know every future Halo title will not be directly related.
So again, I believe Halo: Infinite needs a reconsideration to be renamed.
