I’ve been spending a bit of time on the Epic forums lately and love the ability to add images to my posts, and to have a text signature underneath every post.
Here’s an example of one I posted in the last couple of days:
http://forums.epicgames.com/threads/949570-Web-skin-to-become-scarce-All-codes-have-run-out
Now, I understand the reasoning behind restricting the use of such privileges, it can easily be abused. However, I think the team of moderators we have here do an excellent job of stamping down on infringements of existing rules, and I would like to think they’d be able to cope with any extra problems arising from introduction of these two features.
I’m aware that signatures can be added by people who have attained the rank of Spartan, but that does require an incredibly high post count.
As far as I’m aware, no users (except perhaps admins) have the ability to add images to their posts. I don’t mean using an image as a sig, I mean placing an image in the main body of the post.
Perhaps such abilities could be given to people of a certain forum rank, although I was thinking a little lower than Spartan!!!.
Do you think this would just cause too much hassle on the forums?
Would it be possible to trial such a feature in the near future?
Thanks for your time.
I’m personally against the idea, from a technical standpoint, when Admins add photos to posts, we don’t just see the image, we have to download it to our PC and then view it.
I don’t know if this is what tags do on the YAF software, but it isn’t exactly optimal for a signature image.

Sorry, I didn’t mean images as signatures. I meant images in posts, like the [shot] [/shot] feature on the epic forums.

Ooooh, apologies for the mistake

I thought the topic would just use an html reference and place the image from the source straight into the post, rather than having to upload images to the Waypoint servers.

It also automatically creates a hyperlink so if you click the image it opens it up full-size in a new tab. It’s a really quick and easy to use feature which I like a lot.

That is a good point and one I considered.
I’ve been on the Epic forum a lot this week and haven’t seen a single inappropriate image in the Judgment forum though. 99.9% of the posts don’t use the feature anyway.
Also, by limiting it to a certain forum rank and above (but not Spartan!) it would help limit abusers who would try to make new accounts to continue causing problems with it.

I’m not sure what the YAF software can do compared to the Epic forums software, but I’ve yet to see an image just posted here in bulk.

Oh, I see. So the waypoint forums uses the YAF system, I didn’t realise that. Thanks for the info.
Not to be a stick in the mud, but I wouldn’t trust any of the Halo community members with the ability to post images in posts like other forums… Unless they make it so normal members can only post screen shots from the file share system.
Granted, there are those of us forum members who understand that there are rules and lines you just don’t cross. But there are those who treat the forum rules like they’re simple guidelines that they don’t have to listen to if they don’t want too.
