Throughout every Halo game, Easter eggs have always been fun to find. Like, for instance, the weird monkey family in Halo 3, or the elusive toys in Halo 2: Anniversary. But, this Easter egg was not so fun to find.
If you turn on Subtitles, in Halo Reach, close to the end of the final cut scene after the nobles advance into the bunker on the mission “New Alexandria”, what follows is something horrifying. You read across the screen and see the panicked conversation between civilians as Reach is glassed. As you read these words, you can almost feel the terror that these civilians are feeling; of knowing everything around you is burning and so many people are being killed so close to you. Finding this Easter egg for the first time was cool at first, but quickly, it became quite depressing. The dialogue is inaudible, so all you can do is read it. The dialogue shared between the civilians is below:
Civilian #1: Close the doors! Faster!
Civilian #2: What’s happening? No!
Civilian #3: It’s going to be alright, we’re safe here. Stay calm.
Civilian #4: [Screaming] Here it comes!
Civilian #5: I don’t want to die! Please, let me live!
Civilian #6: Shh. I’m here. It’s OK.
It is best to experience this Easter Egg on the first play through of the Halo Reach campaign, as a quite mortifying event occurs right before this dialogue Easter Egg. Although short, this Easter egg should be more recognized as a lesson to always turn Subtitles on. Because you don’t ever know what you are going to miss if they are off. Thank you for reading, and have a pleasant day.
