Substance vs Quality (Halo 4 Sounds)

From the gameplay I’ve seen so far, let me clarify that I think the quality of Halo 4’s sound effects (guns, vehicles, etc.) is very high; everything sounds clear and crisp.

However, as good as it sounds in its own right, it’s just… not Halo. BR is different, PP is different, the Beam Rifle is different, the Banshee is different. EVERYTHING’S DIFFERENT!! Gah! DX I’ve played through 5 different Halo games up to this point, and they have all had the same basic gun sounds; why does 343 feel the need to alter such an integral part of Halo ? Or any other game with such a defined universe and sandbox, for that matter.

That, and the absolutely ridiculous amount of pointless medals with their accompanying VO from our beloved announcer, end up bombarding me in a flood of sounds that I just DO NOT want to hear. -_-

The game plays like Halo should, in my opinion, but it’s the little things that distract from the overall package for me, personally.

And yeah, I know I’m not the first to post this sentiment, and I’m merely adding to the noise at this point, but I don’t care; if more people rant about it, there’s a better chance 343 will take note. If I’m alone on this, then it’ll go unnoticed, which is fine; but if not, maybe things will be addressed before the game goes gold! >.<

EDIT- Typo in the poll. “Iconic,” not “iconics.” Meh.

They’re making Halo 4 their Halo game. Not like I care, I’m alright with what they’re doing.

I totally agree. For the most part it does feel like Halo and for the most part I like the way 343i are taking Halo 4, however its those small details and finishing touches that they are failing at. Badly.

The warning signs for me was the reveal of the Warthog with me thinking “Why have they redesigned it to look like an ordinary truck?” and then the redesigned Chief, the bizarre look of the Elite, Jackal and Grunt, the pointlessly redesigned Forward Unto Dawn. Warning signs blaring loudly now.

Then the sound effects and weapon designs. I don’t know who thought the Storm Rifle was a needed weapon when we have the iconic Plasma Rifle, gah.

At this point I thought this is just visual stuff and sound stuff, the core gameplay is still the same so it’ll be ok. Now we hear that CTF is changing amongst other things, and although it might feel like Halo it simply isn’t Halo anymore.

I think most of us get that 343i want to feel like they are making a mark on Halo and want to make it “fresh”, but personally I wish they’d honor the Halo we all know and simply continue the work of Bungie and not just hijack it and bring it all crashing down because they want to feel like they aren’t just basking in Bungies glory.

Get some focus 343i. Stand back and be objective and ask “Is this really still Halo?”.

The sounds that 343i have captured and created for us is just simply amazing, they’re heading towards the right direction.

I admit: Some things may need beefing up, but I got to tell you: I fell in love with the Gauss Hog Cannon noise, but the thing is: Everything would sound different when you’re wearing a heavy padded helmet.

sounds=fine

text in the middle of screen after every action= possibly a problem

I like the sounds. They sit in a nice sweet spot between familiar and futuristic. The weapons sound like futuristic versions of weapons today.

I like the vast majority of weapon sounds - Plasma Pistol sounds really strange, as does the Ghost, but I’m sure I’ll adjust.

The multiplayer announcements though - they’re really weird and distracting. “HEADCASE!” and “ASSASSINATION!” are going to happen so often it’ll get annoying very quick. I don’t need a dude yelling at me I did something slightly cool if I saw myself do it, save it for multikills and genuine achievements

Plasma pistol, Gravity Hammer and needler need their sounds changing.

the sounds are alright but im hoping that they sound better in the actual game
