stupid AR.....

I cannot understand how anyone would want to use an AR in matchmaking. I am in the process of maxing the commendation for it and have been using it exclusivley in regicide/oddball. I’m so sick of it I could puke. Finally got it to master and now I see that it will take another 1,000 kills to max it out. 4 more days and that weapon will be retired for good…

It’s a good weapon…but I prefer the Suppressor.

What part bothered you? Was it the part of it actually being more effective at close range than the precision weapons or the part about it actually being effective in general?

If you have trouble with an AR then I can’t imagine how you would even hope to play with a precision weapon. Don’t try to say the weapon is bad when you are bad.

Started on mastering it, got a ton of kills (very easy to use just a different style).

Next day, went back to BR/DMR and I was awful :S

Scared that working on mastering AR will ruin me with precision weapons!

Why I prefer the AR:

  1. It sounds beastly
  2. It very fun to catch players attempting to use the BR or DMR in CQB
  3. It’s one of Halo’s most iconic weapons
  4. Fun to own newbs with
  5. It’s a bloody Automatic. It makes you feel like a man.

Agreed. Makes you want to beat the crap out of noobs in Reach Grifball just to vent the frustration.

It’s my last UNSC weapon I need to master out for the commendation and I avoid it like the plague. Last night I changed my loadout so I can wield the BR as my primary and AR as secondary. That way I can switch to the AR for close quarters kills. But I’m in no rush since I hit level 130 and XP doesn’t matter anymore.

the ar is surprisingly effective in close range fights.

lol - I dont have trouble using it - I get up to 18 kills a game with it. Ive already maxed snipes/br/dmr. Its bad because you gotta get close to get kills with it. Most games everybody is using dmr/br and has the advantage. Don’t try to say I am bad when you are an idiot.

So well said. This covers all the bases.

I haven’t exactly honed in on the H4 versions sweet spot yet… Anyone figure out the appropriate cadence for effectice close range use? In Reach it felt like two short burts followed by a longer burst would get the job done.

sounds to me like you’re hating the br/dmr more than the ar.

ha…looking forward for when that times comes around. I have 1 hammer kill right now - lol.

Burst firing at mid range is your best bet with the AR. When in close range it’s just a simple case of holding down the trigger and letting lose your Hail of Lead.

What some people don’t understand however it that the AR is not to be treated like a BR or DMR. It is not a gun from CoD. Play with a stealthy style and let the enemies come to you. By doing this, they shall come into your comfort zone, forcing them into the best range for the AR.

lol…definitely not. I am usually the one killing all the noobs running around with the AR. Between getting the assassin commendation maxed and getting the AR maxed -it will take me a month to get my k/d above 2 again.

I haven’t tried using it yet but man, I get killed with it A LOT!

That’s because it’s a good gun. Y U NO USE IT?

Unfortunately they “fixed” the spawn points in Halo 4 Grifball. Our days of noobapalooza in Reach are over with. :frowning:

So, play smart?

But…but that’s impossible!!!

This is most people’s mistake. It is not a seek and destroy weapon. It’s great for jumping down on your opponent or pretty much catching them unawares.

I don’t use it because, in general, you are at a definte disadvantage against any sort of skilled player with a br/dmr. Sure, its easy to get kills with the AR against all the noobs running around but not against people that know how to play and keep a distance between themselves and the nooby AR shooters.

What’d they do? make it random spawn points on the map? Still gonna play to get my hammer maxed at least.
