Hi, I’m an avid Halo player and a Film student currently working on a script for a short film that I will direct later this year. I want to write a story where two people bonded over playing a game of Halo, but to make it feel real I want to show real game footage that I recorded on my Xbox One. I don’t know whether or not that I will be infringing on Microsoft’s copyright.I felt like this is kind of a stupid question, but I really have no idea who to turn to but the community (and hopefully 343 themselves).
So long as you give proper credit to Microsoft, 343I AND Bungie (gotta give credit to the original makers), I think you’ll be fine. For reference, I suggest you look at other films revolving around Halo (RvB, Arby N’ The Chief, etc.) and see how they handle it. Regardless, I hope your film bodes well in both production and reception. Who knows, maybe you could even put it here for us to see.
Yes, as Wraith said above you have to properly give credit to Microsoft and developers. Check any Halo YouTube channel and it will have what you need in the description. You main want to check the Microsoft Code of Conduct or whatever it is to be sure though.
