Casually at least. I recognize it’s competitive viability, but in social playlists it’s just not a fun game to play. I’d rather they put King of the Hill in instead.
It’s hard to argue against the classic objective game types like king, but that said I’m not sure there’s anything inherently wrong with strongholds. Any objective game will rely even more heavily on teamwork than slayer already does, and that certainly makes strongholds feel sweatier, but I don’t remember king or flag or any of the others feeling any less competitive or requiring any less in the way of coordination.
King of the hill is in action sack but it’s not the regular version.

I’d much prefer oddball and regicide for social however I don’t mind strongholds
I don’t mind strongholds. I kind of wish they bring back territories for BTB though.
I like it
Small maps drives an intensity to the gametype that does not lend itself to Casual gameplay - Plaza, Empire etc

I liked the Strongholds the few times I’ve been able to play it. I would like to play it more, but because it’s in Team Arena, I usually get Slayer and Capture the Flag instead of Strongholds.
No, Slayer is not fun.
i personally don’t mind it maybe it’s just me it’s not amazing but it’s better in btb
Well I hate getting Diminishing Kings in action sack, the map is great but I hate Strongholds. I don’t like games where to win you just sit in one place and occasionally kill an attacker.

I feel like the difference with Strongholds is that it requires communication more than any other gametype, which isn’t a bad thing, it just doesn’t transition well into a social playlist. CTF needs a lot of communication too, but I feel like the game does a lot of that for us. “Escort” prompts, “Capture” prompts, and “Defend” prompts tell basically everything you need to know. Obviously coordinated attack is going to be more efficient, but a team of people without mics can more or less play effectively. Strongholds isn’t like that. Coordinated attacks are a lot more important, and when you are playing with a group of people that aren’t necessarily working together that can lead to a lot of bashing your head into a wall. That combo-ed with the scoring system (the exact same soring system that allow for epic comebacks in competitive games) leads to a lot of blowout matches in social playlists. It’s clear to me that Strongholds was designed to be a super competitive gamemode. That’s fine. I just don’t like either blowing people out because I got lucky with team matching or getting blown out because I got unlucky with it, and that’s what social playlists feel like to me.

I don’t want to replace it with Slayer. Just something that doesn’t require as much teamwork to be successful in a playlist where teamwork isn’t as heavily encouraged or required. Something like King of the Hill. It’s easy to understand the objective, and while teamwork is beneficial, it’s not required in the same way that it is in Strongholds. Social is the place for people to go when they don’t want to play sweaty, and to me it is super obvious that Strongholds was made to be a sweaty gametype. That’s fine, but the playlists have to play to their own crowds.

Where are you playing strongholds in social? I thought they got rid of the competitive-ish playlist.

Slayer is the sweatiest gametype of all.
is not on social anymore, only in BTB wich is fun, cause is a carnage
Would love koth but strongholds is fun with the right people its all about playing with others
There nothing blatantly wrong with Strongholds. It seems to play well enough in soical and competitive play. It’s not a terrible mode of play at all.
My whole thing is why 343I felt the need to replace KOTH with it, Because as far as I’m concerned that’s what Strongholds is, a KOTH replacement. Personally, I’d rather have KOTH as I find it more enjoyable (competitive and non competitive wise) as a whole. I just think those resources could of been used else where instead. To me this is just a other case of 343I changing/adding something that didn’t really needed to be.
I’m not really a fan either, as I play solo it appears once you go up against a team that’s communicating even if there not as good individually I lose every time even when changing tactics of being main slayer or keeping map control or focusing on capture and reset . That being said I like the variety in game types and the constant slayer !!! Also I think it depends what map you get I actually do enjoy strongholds on plaza I think that’s a very well designed map for it.
