Stripping Armour Customization... Why?

I know a lot of people could care less, but I’ve always loved Halo’s hefty amount of spartan customization. Reach took it to a whole new level after 3 and then 4 did a pretty good job to keep up. There was a lot you could change about your spartan, and there were so many things you could mix and match. There were a lot of armour sets where I didn’t really like the shoulders, but loved all the rest, etc. Situations like that are the reason I was so happy I had the option to sub in shoulders I preferred, Earlier it was confirmed via twitter by a dev that the customization will be limited to body armour, helmet, and visor (as well as gender). When I read this I got really upset, and it’s actually the first change in halo 5 I’m actually really upset about. I’m in the boat of “I’m fine if it changes, I’m fine if it stays the same” as far as gameplay goes. I just think this is a massive step back for the series as for almost 8 years Halo has had fully customizable armours. I would have fewer qualms with this tweet if it weren’t for the fact that probably 75% of the armour I’ve seen in the beta thus far is recycled from Halo 4, which seemingly had no problems whatsoever with customization and mixing sets. Sorry for the rant. What are your guys thoughts on this change? I’m sure a lot of people don’t care but I for one am truly upset about this, and will miss personalizing my look and feeling like a unique spartan and think it’s a really backward and honestly stupid decision for 343 to take it away.

tl;dr: The new armour customization is a massive step backwards and this frustrates me, thoughts?

I swear, the more I learn about Halo 5, the less interested in it I am. While not a priority, this is disappointing news.

Hey, hey, think of it this way: it is one step better than the MCC’s customization. Maybe, in the next title we will have Halo 3 level customization!

Really? This is the first time I am actively disappointed in Halo 5. This is really big for me. A more powerful system with more memory and we get less options?

what a drag.

give it time. It could be that they have it limited right now because of where it is places. A lot can happen with in a year. So don’t jump to conclusions quite yet.

It also makes me mad that you would jump to a conclusion and start dis-ing on 343i right away. not even take the time to explore the different options here.

You mean the lack of options?

While I do not consider this to be a deal breaker (armor customization is just cosmetic and don’t provide any tactical advantages) I still think I’ll come to miss the sheer variety of outfits among fellow Halo players.

Granted, whilst playing Slayer and other competitive modes I seldomly pay attention to how opponents… err, dress up, but in cooperative modes such as Firefight or Spartan Ops I personally think that the wealth of customization options has helped me distinguish between individual team members when conditions have called for greater coordination.

This is a somewhat deal breaker to me forge is the only thing that can save this game for me. I was absolutely disgusted at 343’s choice to remove it from MCC however this is just pure laziness I wonder how many models will return from H4 with a little bit of touching up done as well?

I’ve been a proud supporter of 343i and H:5 thus far, but this is a step back if they do strip down the customization. I won’t rant and scream, but I will say that the game is almost a year away from being done, so they may be able to add it in. But the issue is developing on the X1 has been difficult for a lot of developers. It’s a new piece of hardware, and learning its development pipeline could be tougher than we know.

i am not completely defending them though, Reach is my favorite Halo title to date, largely due to the variations of armor and being able to build my own Spartan. So I will keep my fingers crossed that they will reconsider this move…but I’m not going to hold my breath that they will realize they made a mistake on this front.

but honestly, they probably will keep it stripped down. All that I’ve seen from the armor and weapons so far are reused assets. Minor changes on the weapon models but basically nothing new. Which isn’t bad, but looking at the reused armor sets, I don’t think they will put much effort into allowing you to really ‘craft’ your own character in that universe.

Even lookin back at the H:4 Spartan armor pieces, I wonder if their character designers can actually grasp what ‘looking like a Spartan’ really is? In Reach, every piece of armor felt like it fit the role. H:4 there were a hand full that fit and a lot of pieces that just didn’t make sense nor fit the Spartan aesthetic.

.

I want customization. Even the first iteration of customization had more options than this. I want left and right shoulders, arms, and legs as well. I want add-ons and little extras like arm devices, leg bags, extra armor plating, robotic limbs, and bandoliers. I want the best of Reach and 4’s customization combined with no options removed. It’s next gen, get it together 343i.

Bexause too much armor customization
Made everyone look likr Power Rangers.

It got ridiculous.
Reaches options were ok.
Halo 3 simplicity but meaning something was the best.
