Can you do me a favor and run this diag test a few times:
In Xbox One, open Settings
Open Network
Select Detailed network statistics
Note the posted speeds, and repeat the test a few times (I run this 5x to get a baseline)
post your results here so I can see, or send me a direct message… as long as I can get an idea of what the Xbox is reporting back!
Thanks!

Thank you for that feedback. Am currently unable to get into a state where it is constantly cycling here, so I am having to troubleshoot by proxy which is going to be less amazing than if I could just get it to act up here.
A couple things I would like to have you try, if you are inclined:
Hard Reset on Xbox One (Pull power cord and leave off for 2-3 minutes before reconnecting power or hold the power button for 18 seconds or so, so it goes past ‘sleep mode’ power down)
Restart the kit, then navigate to and open Halo Channel
Toggle a menu item to disable auto-start, and give the kit about 1 minute to populate menus, etc
Navigate to and play a Nightfall video
I am shooting for a couple things here:
a) clearing any Halo Channel cache (by power off)
b) assuring that we aren’t trying to load content in the background while video is playing by giving it time to load everything before we start a video
I appreciate any help you can provide, as I am unable to get this condition to occur here
I’ll give this a try soon to see what happens. Right now I am trying to watch Halo Channel on Windows 10 Technical Preview 2 build 10049 and it is doing the same thing. 5.61Mbps this time.
Is it all content or just the Nightfall content?
Its all content. I’ve mostly been trying to watch the HCS Season 1 Finals stuff.

Thanks for that update… Am looking at this issue, but am having terrible luck with getting anything remotely close. I see brief flashes of a spinner, but it never trips beyond a momentary spin.
When you are watching, do you have Halo Channel running as a standalone app, or did you launch into from MCC, leaving MCC in the background? Trying to get an idea of where it might be bogging.
Also, if it happens with Halo Channel by itself, does it happen immediately or does it degrade over time?
This issue has been mentioned only a few times, by a very small number of folks, and each time I look at it, I can’t find the common ground to dig in and find the root, so I am trying to find anything at the moment.
I’m glad I’m not the only person experiencing this problem.
I’m going to Halo Channel through an Xbox One, and I get choppy playback when I watch RvB or any video, and when I listen to #HuntTheTruth Episode 3 Critical Condition. This occurs after waiting several minutes for any menus to load or waiting for a count of the twitch feeds. The choppiness occurs even after I’ve unplugged the Xbox for 30-40 minutes.
Other streaming services seem just fine (e.g. Netflix, and Youtube).
I’m utilizing a 802.11ac media bridge, so the Xbox thinks its connecting to a wired network. When I run the diagnostics on the console, I get the following values:
Download speed 3.00 4.06 5.71 6.44 Mbps
Upload speed ~0.52 Mbps
Packet Loss 0%
MTU 1480
Latency 32ms
I’ve rebooted every part of my network chain from the cable modem, to my wireless router, media bridge, and the Xbox One itself. I’ve even switched the Xbox One from being wired to the bridge to running wirelessly to my router. The result was the same choppy playback.
I’ve now uninstalled, and reinstalled Halo Channel. When I monitor the traffic when viewing content through Halo Channel vs Netflix, I can see Netflix pulls data 50% times faster than Halo Channel.
I hope this provides someone with some additional information to work with. Currently, Halo Channel just doesn’t work, and I hope someone can resolve it.
Thanks
Same Problem here. But I would like to add that the resolution of the videos in question seems to be really, really high and for some reason it doesn’t adjust to a lower quality as in other videos that are running well.
Very interesting. Since writing here, RvB episodes seem to stream a little better. Instead of being choppy, the resolution steps down a few notches and the picture appears blurry. Oh, and I do see the occasional “loading circle” in the middle of the screen momentarily appear.
HuntTheTruth audio is still choppy. Audio plays for a few seconds, then stops to load.
Can I get someone with this issue to try a hard reset on their Xbox (Hold power button for 13+ seconds till it hard cycles off, or pull the plug for 2+ minutes) then re-launch Halo Channel and try a previously problematic video again?
Trying to determine if that improves playback or not… any feedback is appreciated

I’m having the same issue (running in XB1). In fact, when watching Nightfall (and all other content, I presume), it will be playing in full 1080p quality for several minutes, then it will slow down horrendously, buffering for over a minute, sometimes playing for short spurts, but ultimately resulting in an error message that says the content can’t be played at this time. Couldn’t take a screenshot on account of the content being protected, but will take a picture with my phone if it appears again.
I will also try this fix and report back with my results. Thanks for utilizing these forums and working with us, ChicknBoneJones. You’re one of the only 343 employees who does this, and I think I speak for everyone when I say I appreciate it deeply. Looking forward to the Channel becoming what it’s supposed to be and being a prolific, fun-to-use hub for all things Halo. Keep up the good work.
I’ve commented on this a few weeks ago and it only appears to get worse. I begin to Watch Jay on the Bulletin and it keep pausing and pausing as it tries to load, then play for 5 seconds, then load more. Some times if I leave it to see what happen, it tells me the retry, sorry I’m having problems with the video.
I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I’ve tried the 7 second hard reboot. I’ve tried moving the Halo Channel from the internal to the external and back. I’ve deleted it from the External drive, then made the Internal drive the main drive, then the 7 second hard reboot, then download the Halo Channel again.
I’ve given up - there definitely has to be something wrong on 343’s end because this was not like this when the Halo Channel came out initially. It played beautifully and now I just don’t want to even try because it is too frustrating to experience so much lag and pausing.
Hope you can get this resolved, because there is great content to watch and it’s not watchable. Also I would imagine that there are many that attempt to watch, can’t and simply don’t bother. This impacts the overall image and perception of users and what they perceive Halo 5 will be like.
More input that has come to mind. I’ve tried quitting every app on the Xbox One, starting the Halo Channel by itself. Problem persists.
I’ve tried accessing the Halo Channel from with Halo MCC, same thing, problem with lagging persists.
I forget to mention before, but I also when I did the 7 second hard reboot of the Xbox One, I also powered off the modem/gateway, waited for 30 minutes, then restarted the modem, then the Xbox One, no difference.
Netflix, YouTube, Xbox Video, all stream flawlessly, never an issue.
Can’t think of what else I’ve tried to see if I could uncover some common ground, but I can’t see to find a situation that the Halo Channel works smoothly like it did when it first came out.
Hope this helps provide some helpful info.
I’ve got a request/ask for folks having this problem: Could you include your geographical location as part of your information? I only ask because we have server clusters in various regions/areas, and we are trying to determine if there is a link to regions… You don’t have to be super specific, but if you could give the city/state/country, that would allow me to start collecting that data, so we can determine if, as an example, an East Coast server cluster was unusually slow, or such.
It may not be the cause, but we are certainly looking for anything that we can find in common between folks having this issue since we can’t get a solid repro… And this is a high priority issue to resolve.

Still buffering issues, can’t watch the Halo Channel whether from my Xbox One or my Surface Pro 3 with Windows 8.1. Even if I take my Surface to work, which is a different ISP and we have about 90 Mb/s down, it buffers and buffers, stuttering so much that watching the video is unbearable. Posted back in April and again in May. Still no update on what is happening.
I’d love to be able to watch the Halo Channel, but can’t which impacts the overall Halo Experience!
Thanks!
Just dropping by to say this is kinda ridiculous.
First got MCC, tried Nightfall etc. on the Halo Channel XB1 app and had issues with buffering/being able to play videos. Had simillar issues on W8(.1?) so skipped it for the time.
Jumped back on tonight, hyped up by E3 etc. to sit down and watch Nightfall. No longer have a 8.1 machine to run it on PC so dusted off the XB1 and updated it etc.
Same freaking issues.
This is on a 25mbps connection wired connection with Open NAT, ports forwarded, the whole 9 yards. Zero issues with streaming anything else. If any 343 employees need more info than I’ve provided I’ll be happy to provide it, but I’m assuming the whole Halo Channel idea has kinda crashed and burned.
Kinda ticked off about this and have moved to other methods to watch the content.
343 if you can’t make a decent video app yourselves or find a good contractor, use YouTube or similar, all this does is alienate/draw off fans. This is extremely frustrating and not giving me much hope for Halo 5 especially after MCC’s launch.
/end rant.
Anyhow sorry if that was a little harsh but this kinda thing is really annoying. I’ve settled for other methods but figured I’d leave some details while that is downloading to hopefully help you guys resolve this issue for others.
Anyhow few details:
Early model XB1
Located in South Eastern Australia
25/5Mbps Point to Point Wireless connection (Australian NBN)
Wired Cat6 Connection (XB-Switch-[>20m run]-Router-NTD)
Static IP outside of DHCP range w. XBL Ports forwarded
Detailed network stats (5 tests as you mentioned, used last test, all were ballpark these figures)
DL: 18.27Mbps UL: 6.61Mbps Packet Loss: 1% MTU: 1480 Latency 211ms
XB HDMI Direct to Monitor, 3.5mm split from there.
No other equipment connected (no Kinect plugged in, capture card, etc. etc.)
Have tried:
Switch/router/NTD reboot several times. Soft and Hard reboots of XB1. Wired and Wireless connections. Static and DHCP connections. “Gentle” verbal encouragement of XB1
. Replaced Cat6 cable between switch and XB1. Booting Halo Channel from MCC and Dashboard. Confirmed Nightfall is installed under Channel in My Games and Apps. Confirmed no Guest logged in. Confirmed no server issues on status page. Shut down all other connected devices. Probably more but that all I can remember ahahaha.
Anyhow let me know if I can provide any more info to help.
Cheers.
This issue is under investigation at the moment, and has been for awhile. While I can’t offer a work-around or a clear answer, the current work we have done in the investigation is suggesting that the app is working correctly, but that the data is being slow on transfer. The player used is the same core video player that Xbox One uses throughout, and in Windows, again we use the default player provided by Windows. Since we know those players work for others without issue, our focus is currently on the system that serves content, which is one of the few pieces of the puzzle we have little control over.
But to reiterate, we are deep into investigation on this, and know that it is impacting some users, and not others.
