Wouldn’t it be really cool if they added more strategy mechanics. I mean we have counter-units and garrisoning, but it would be really good if we have things like flanking bonus, height bonuses, moral and stuff like that. Have it so that Marines and Grunts are easier too terrorise (they take less damage and stop attacking) when other units are killed, but Brutes get enraged. So I could have a Marine squad start shooting some Brutes then fall back through a little valley. At the top are Kodiaks and snipers, and at the end are more Marines and Scorpions. Have some Hornets/Vultures circle round the back then open fire. That would be utter carnage. Also add more cover into the game. Also have it so when vehicles or air units are killed, the leave behind cover for a few minutes so it didn’t get laggy.
What you need to keep in mind is that this game is a console native RTS. Most of what you’re proposing is stuff I’ve seen in Company of Heroes, which in all honesty would not translate well to console for the simple fact that a mouse and keyboard is not available for this game. And even with the play anywhere feature, you still leave players that pay exclusively on console with a game that is too complex for the controller, if you try to implement a cover and height buff/debuff system.
How exactly? In Halo Wars 1 there was a cover system using placed environmental features specifically chosen to give cover. It worked the same way as garrisoning. HW1 was released in early 2009. The enraging or terrifying would be part of the game A.I. The height bonus, how is that too complex? You literally say " There’s a hill, stand on it" The game does the rest.
I agree with Nick.
In these nextgen consoles we should see MORE capability than the 15yr old consoles. But we don’t.
So far HW2 seems like an old game repackaged with little improvement, just to make a few bucks.
