Strategies on Abandon??

Hey all,

The subject somes up my question. I usually play infinity slayer and notice that I don’t perform nearly as well on “Abandon.” So i was wondering if those of you that enjoy this map or usually do well would share some thoughts. Suggested loadout options and why or anything you think may help.

Thanks for taking the time to help,

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

My experience in abandon(one of my least favorite maps):I play…
Enemy team camps in the center of the map

Enemy team gets power weapons

I’m doomed.

I like haven adrift and solace though

Always try to move around the outside of the map while the other members of your team engage (if the enemy is in the middle), a few frags later the other team is spamming X.

I like using jetpack to land on the middle tower, if you do that pulse grenades can be handy.

As the maps pretty small I prefer the BR, but that’s just preference.

And I’ll try to think of some more.

I have a hard time with this map too. I find that if I stick to the more open spawn side and wait for them to come to me I do ok. Rushing the middle is usually death, but if can get your team to stick by the open area spawn, you might do better. It’s hard to hold down solo, but even if you get one more person to stick with you, you might be ok.

If I can’t get someone to stay with me, the elevated wooded area (opposite the side with the stairs) is good to hold down yourself. Just run straight up and down that path and shoot into the map, or take out people coming at you.

I’m still trying to figure out the best way to handle this map, but my better games have been with these two tactics in mind. If anyone else has anything to share I’d like to hear…

Try and get the top and bottom of the building in the middle of the map and hold it off. Also using a jet pack is a good idea since I allows you to get to the building faster and get to the top much faster. If your doing some SWAT also try to stay in the side areas and pick off those who are trying to control the middle building.

Get team take over ring 3. 2 people switch to bolt shot and 2 people keep DMR’s to control the outside. Seems to work.

i think i will have to try a few of these and see which works best

BR + Dexterity = 15+ kills a game

I recently got some pretty good feedback just a few ago over in the matchmaking forum, https://forums.halowaypoint.com/yaf_postst169472_Tips-for-slayer-on-Abandon.aspx

Since, my gameplay has improved. If you opt for concentrating on the tower, the AR had worked quite well for me. If you keep to the other elevated mesas, Id recommend the DMR or BR.

A few things to look out for regarding that tower, and I’d recommend popping into forge to take a look at it. There’s a cubby hole/nook right at the top of the stairways that scattershot invis (or just crouching) like to camp in, they can be pretty devastating if you aren’t looking for them. The same goes for the southern side with opens at the ramp to the south, crouchers just on the inside of the entrance. Two or more guys occupying these positions can devastate any assault, thus I recommend resupply as a tactical package to give you a bit of an edge by collecting grenades.

I’d probably avoid the lift altogether, as it faces the cubby hole camper, he’s just waiting for you.

Try and stick with at least one teammate, but perhaps a little distance, assaulting the tower are great ops for double kills from the opposing team.

But there’s a lot of options, and different teams play differently, I would have more than one loadout ready depending on the gameplay (mid-range, close quarters etc), you can change things out as the matchstyle develops.

I have one saved game in my fileshare, in fact its the first match I had after getting some feedback in my thread.

Cheers, and hope this helps.

I used to love Abandon, now I’ve grown to distaste it. Mainly due to the boltshot and how overpowered it can be on this board. And it encourages camping. I was in a 4v4 randoms game where the score was 13-9 with 5 minutes left (Ended 36-27 or something like that). But the best move is always to control the top of the tower. I use DMR + Dexterity + Regen Field + Boltshot + AA efficiency on it and never seem to have a bad game (even with randoms).

As much as you are tempted to rush the middle, don’t.

Work the outside and get people who are rushing the middle.

use a hologram and stand back by the tree thing… works every time 60% of the time.

Everyone usually crowds around the middle structure. Toss grenades in there and snipe then with the noob rifle. Don’t rush in, as they usually have Boltshots ready.

Honestly, I hate to say it but I do my team a favor and quit. Rather have the JiP pick up players that can succeed on that map than force my teammates to suffer with me on it.

The map seems very AR lovey

Charge Ring 3 (Top ring middle tower) Red team will get it first if they all charge, fight for control of the tower (including bottom, random rocket/scattershot drops) and from there you can really control the map because of the height difference with commanding views of blue spawn, purple Forrest, rock wall and red spawn.

Suggestions to help you take over the top level:

A- Jetpack + AR + Dexterity. Fly over the top floor walls and fire.(don’t charge through the wall-less openings, that’s exactly where they expect you to come from)

B- Hologram + Grenadier + Explosives + 3x Frag grenade. Walk under the Grav lift below the center top floor, send an hologram to fly up the lift and throw all 3 grenades after it. Boltshot campers on top trying to get close to the hologram coming up are going to die from those frags (plasma grenades takes a bit longer to detonate. Campers rarely wait right at the lift exit anyway so getting a stick kill is unlikely)

The (B) suggestion shouldn’t be your main loadout on that map, just use it a few times when needed then return to your standard loadout.

Nice.

Thanks guys! I know it’s been about 3 weeks but abandon has been much better for me trying out some your suggestions. I always used the DMR but switching to the AR for this map and adrift has been a big help. Game on!

Do yourself a favor and keep using the DMR, AR isn’t going to get you anywhere.
