Strange Release Date

Is it just me or does Halo 5 have a strange release date for a Halo game? Please post your questions, comments, and reasons.

Not really, its just a week before Halo 4’s release date, and Halo the MCC’s.

I hate bringing CoD into these forum, but I believe it to be partially part of 343i’s decision. Usually we would get a release in September or November. If it’s not a September release, maybe 343i felt that would be to early and didn’t want to work under those time constraints. Just a speculation obviously.

However a November release does mean they would be alongside CoD. Since Halos numbers have dropped in past years I think 343i would want to release before CoD to get initial sales and hype. However CoD is already releasing in the first week of November, thus a November release would put them on the same day or after CoD. With how sales have been over the last few years that would most certainly hurt the games sales.

It’s all a timing thing. I only speculate the September comment, however I’m certain about the November comment. Halo 5 would most certainly lose that battle if it had to release on the same day or after CoD. At least with a earlier release the game can get some good launch numbers.

I guess they wanted to avoid conflict with this years Call of Duty

Well, one, to avoid conflict with that other game we don’t talk about if we can, and two, to capitalise on a kind of dead zone. I can’t think of any big games being released around October, so there’ll be no immediate competition. That would help 343 both get an accurate depiction of how the wider fan base feels, not just the vocal bit, as well as probably keep them around a bit longer. Plus, since apparently post-launch support is going to be Halo’s most extensive yet, I think population maintenance is a priority. Hook 'em early, and slowly feed 'em dribs and drabs to stop any wriggling off.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the release dates of major games are tacitly arranged between publishers. If two are released in quick succession, both stand to lose a percentage of their customer base. And considering how big videogames are today, a drop of even 1% could equate to missing out on tens of millions of dollars.

H5 is releasing PRETTY close to when COD:AW released last year. H5G: 10/27/15 COD:AW: 11/04/14. That’s one week apart.

Yeah, it’s a bit strange because most of the FPS Halo games usually come out in either September or November.

It is within the September to November timeframe of previous titles, so it seems fairly standard to me.
