Strange Gen 3 thruster split in Halo:SoR

Just wanted to remind everyone of the strange thrusters disconnect on the cover of Halo:Shadows of Reach, you can see it on John and Fred. It looks wierd to see the thrusters disconnect and have the top half move to the side or up depending on your position. 343 has always valued function in their designs, with a strange disconnect, it does not seem possible for them to be used for major jumps or bashes. This makes it hard for me to believe that spartan abilities such as spartan charge and ground pound will be in the game, since they require so much thrust. What do you guys think?

Not sure what you mean by thrusters disconnect… I dont see any thrusters at all on the cover. Though I do notice the apendages on the backs… Maybe its to indicate a male spartan XD :P… jkjk…
From what i asssume, its probably stabilizers…
(WOAH now that i think about it… it literally can be that they are male spartans… and their colar peice makes it such that that back peice has to be disconnected… while the female spartans dont have that colar peice)

I didn’t notice that, it could imply the armor is more articulated and modular. I mean you can see the shoulder pads seperate from the upper arm. Only thing is we don’t see any obscure movement like that in the Discover Hope trailer, which kind of disproves my theory.

It’s entirely possible that since we’re in gen 3 mjolnir now they were able to make the thrusters smaller. Another possibility is a little change in design philosophy, maybe 343i isn’t so obsessed anymore with visuals matching lore.

But you have to remember that Gen 3’s are BIG. Far too big to be held up by such tiny little things, they look like exhaust vents simply to control heat to me. It’s one thing to not be focused on visuals matching lore, another to show the impossible

Again though we don’t know how advanced gen 3 is, at least to my knowledge. They could’ve found a way to not need big hulking thrusters anymore. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see when the game comes out.

We have no idea how heavy the suits are. For all we know the suits use some Forerunner metal that weighs even less than Titanium. We also have no idea how much power these suits are capable of producing. It is very possible that even if the suits weigh more that the thrusters they use are still powerful enough to hold them up or move them around. Also on the GEN 2 Mark 6 we see very similar exhaust vents but in Halo 5 they are used for the Trusters.

We do know that it was heavy enough to shake an entire pelican, however I do concede that they MAY be thrusters and not just exhaust vents.
