I was playing Halo 3 and I lunged with the energy sword directly at a guy. He was holding the a sniper, and he shot me at the exact time at which I sword lunged (however, he never meleed me). I was full shields, and for some reason my sword did zero damage to him. It almost seemed like his sniper shot cancelled my sword lunge, but that’s impossible right? Sorry if this question is a little dumb but this has never happened before. Does anyone know what was going on? Could it just be connection problems or is it something else? There was literally no lag for the whole game…
The sniper round probably hit you in the head so you died instantly.
Nope, I guess I forgot to say that but we both lived, the thing that was strange is that the sword registered and did no damage. I went into theater after the match and tried to see exactly what happened but I really don’t know.
Sounds like a bit of lag. The other guy was likely standing in a different place than what was being shown on your screen.
The sniper bullet did not cancel the sword damage, Halo 3 has some weird stuff sometimes, call it BS.
I’ve had it rarely but it does happen that a guy takes two sword hits to die, typically what happens is your lunge is slightly inaccurate. You might not think so, but if the guy moves out of your view a moment during the lunge, it won’t count. Don’t ask me why it’s just one of those Halo 3 moments that makes it a videogame.
Ok, thanks for the help guys. I ended up assuming it was lag but I was just making sure.

It seems like it, a similar situation happened to me a while back but with a Shotgun instead of a Sniper.
I lunged and died instantly and he just ran through me, when I looked at the film I did see that we were indeed in a laggy game and he did actually shoot me.
Thanks for the help.
Sometimes your sword and beat downs won’t register, your snipe won’t kill, you’ll get lasered behind walls, your grenades won’t stick, sometimes you’ll get stick even though you can clearly see the grenade being far away from you. It’s just Halo …
