Story Expansion Ideas

Assuming the main story is purely focused on Chief and the Banished,
Here are examples of things I’d like to see:

  • An expansion with Fireteam Osiris and their final mission to defeat Cortana and the Created. Basically a wrap up to Halo 5’s storyline. Takes place in the planets of Halo 5. - An expansion with Arbiter and other elite characters. A wrap up to Arbiter’s war. Takes place in Sanghelios. - An expansion with a squad of ODSTS or whatever on Planet Reach. Similar to how Halo 3 ODST was a lone squad in destroyed New Alexandria, this will be a lone squad on glassed Reach. - An expansion that is a return to Earth, featuring characters of the Infinity, such as Laskey, Palmer, and Roland. They are on a top secret ONI mission or something. - A short expansion where Blue Team reunites once more for a mission involved with Halsey. - If the main game does not feature flood, an expansion to defeat a large flood threat somewhere in the Halo Universe (not sure exactly where).I think expansions should be roughly 5-10 hours long, and $10-$15. Meanwhile the main game would be 20-30 hours long and $60 so I think this would be proportionate.

What are your ideas for story expansions? This is a 10 year game after all, so its safe to say we can expect plenty of story content over the years.

I absolutely love the idea of story expansions, but considered the campaign is $60 I don’t think it should cost that much extra.

> Meanwhile the main game would be 20-30 hours long and $60 so I think this would be proportionate.

Sadly the game isn’t anywhere near 20-30 hours long. Chris Lee stated in an interview that the campaign demo was several hours into the story and halfway through. This means that the campaign at most is going to be 10 hours long, but I guess all the side missions combined might add an hour or two.

Hmm well, several hours is quite vague. They did say that it would be several times the size of Halo 4 and Halo 5 combined. Both those games are 10 hours each, so that is why I believe Halo Infinite will be 20-30 hours. No 50 hour RPG, but still quite sizeable compared to other Halo games due to the nature of it being open world and featuring side content. That’s why I believe it will be longer than 10 hours for most people’s playstyle.

Several times larger then Halo 4 and 5 combined is the world size, not the story length unfortunately

I do think the length of the game probably will be a little more than 10 hours if you take your time. If you really speed through it you’ll probably finish in like 7-8 hours. Usually when I see the game devs talk about the length of their game in terms of hours, I just subtract like 1-2 hours from that time just to be safe.

I hope that all the loose ends from Halo 5 are resolved through campaign expansions over time. I know a lot of people weren’t huge fans of the Fireteam Osiris story in Halo 5, but I think it could be an interesting story to tell about what happens after. A Flood focused story would be pretty cool and could inject some slight horror vibes to a Halo story, which would be really cool to play through.

I would kill for a rtas vadum story expansion.

Shouldn’t Cortana be dealt by chief instead of team Osiris

Some of this was touched on recently by haruspis in an excellent blog post: https://haruspis.blog/2021/02/04/what-the-librarian-did-to-the-master-chief-in-halo-4-halo-5-halo-infinite/tl:dr I think it would be a mistake in the main game at launch to try and wrap up too many of the franchise’s dangling threads but there’s certainyl scope to do some via terminals and/or future updates.

Rtas 'Vadum was last seen in the Shadow of Intent novel which well and truly is a storyline the franchise hasn’t revisited since and I would love to see, but my sense is we may need more of that from the transmedia side before it’s developed enough to circle back round to main line.

The flood point is most certainly interesting, but I cannot see it failing to happen in some way given the Halo Wars 2 DLC and installation 07’s history. You make a very observant point about it being a good contender (pun intended) for later story expansion.

Fireteam will have to go on without Buck he left to reform Alpha 9 in Bad Blood. Also can’t work with the planets in 5 because they immediately left when Infinity picked them up.

Perhaps 343 could revive the Spartan Thorne idea?

If the voice actor’s available.

With this game being the ten year anniversary of halo being out, I think they should bring in every character that was ever included in the halo-verse for a final battle in the end and include some new voice lines from the different sides.

I don’t know if the expansions would ever be $10-15, that’s unheard of to me. Especially if it’s an expansion. Expansions normally include many hours of gameplay and some new content too, if it’s just an hour-long story i’d consider that to be simple dlc and not a full expansion. I’m more thinking on the lines of, say, WoW expansion or ESO expansion in terms of size and relevance. I’d love to see more spinoff stories come to Halo though, that’d be amazing. I’d moreso want a story that follows our multiplayer Spartans, like Spartan Ops on steroids.
