If there’s one thing I like coming onto the forums is seeing all sorts of theories and ideas of what is going to happen in Guardians. I’m a fan of the Halo lore so needless to say I’m excited to see where the story goes. That being said I thought it would be a good idea to take a moment and lay out what we can expect as far as the storyline of H5.
A quick note, when I say the storyline I’m also including sources other than the games, i.e. I would categorize H4’s campaign and Escalation up through the 72 Hour story arc to be part of the same storyline along with FUD because it tied in with the beginning of H4 as well as give us a backstory to Lasky.
Without further ado, things we will see in the Guardians story (in order of most likely):
-
Locke Searching For Chief
This one is pretty obvious from the description. Agent Locke is a manhunter who has been tasked with searching for the Master Chief. We don’t know why he is searching for him, but it seems to be one of the most important things as it keeps being referenced quite a bit. How it plays out is yet to be seen, but we also have a good year to speculate (as I’m sure most of us will). -
Chief Off On His Own
If the Halo Xbox One Announcement Trailer from waaaaaay back when means anything it’s safe to say that Chief is looking for something. This will probably take up most of the campaign if I had to guess. What he’s looking for remains to be seen, but he’s looking for something for sure. -
Chief and Cortana’s Relationship
Yes I know she’s dead, but there’s still a lot that can be done with that. It’s likely we’ll see Chief trying to cope with Cortana’s loss through the story in some shape or form, or how he’s dealing without that relationship with her gone. Either way we’re likely to see something there. -
Prometheans
It wouldn’t be a Halo game without the Covenant in it so they’re a given. For those that remember Jul has a number of Promethean forces under his control so it’s safe to assume we’ll be seeing more of them. Also I don’t see why 343 would’ve spent the time creating a new enemy faction for H4 and not have them in subsequent games, but I could be wrong it’s always possible. -
Dr. Halsey and the Janus Key
This has a better shot of being seen in other sources of media, although personally I’d like to see them do this in a second season of SpOps if they do one. Nevertheless it’s something that we saw play out in H4 and at some point is going to need resolved. While I don’t think it’ll be resolved in Guardians there is the possibility of exploring it more and seeing it play out in the story. It’ll be interesting to see where it goes from where we were left off. -
Forerunners
The reason I left this one for last is mostly for how likely it is. Depending on how the story plays out it could go either way whether or not we see Forerunners appear in Guardians. At the end of the 72 Hour story arc in Escalation Chief told Lord Hood he thought the Ur-Didact was “contained” and not “dead”. It’s ambiguous but I’m sure there’s a bigger picture we don’t know about yet. Either way he would be the most likely candidate for a Forerunner appearance in Guardians. There’s a possibility we could also see more imprints of the Librarian as well. I don’t have any idea how that would work but as clever as she was back in her day I could see her have multiple imprints scattered across various places in the galaxy to help out humans. I know it’s mostly speculation but those would be the two likely Forerunners we would see pop up in Guardians.
So there you have it, things we know as of right now that we should see in the Guardians story. I tried to stay away from using my opinion too much if I could so if something seems wrong feel free to discuss in the comments.
