story dlc instead of map packs?

its got to the point were i have lost most if not all interest in the new halo multiplayers eg h4/h5beta but i am still in love with the halo universe and story and these little teasers that 343i are releasing are brilliant and make me want to no more and more about the halo 5 campaign.

i have thought of the idea of instead of map packs that in my opinion should not be sold for the amount they go for in the first place mainly because they dont take that long or that much effort to make in the grand scheme of things and instead release story dlc kind off like spartan ops in h4 spartan ops was amazing beside the very linear map designs for it but on the story side of things it was great.the only reason there was not a season 2 of spartan ops was because there was no funding for it because they were releasing it for free and then charging 1600 microsoft points for dreadful map packs (i say dreadful because they were besides the championship pack that the season pass didnt even cover) if they sold spartan ops instead of map packs we would have most likely seen a season 2 of it.

story based dlc is the way to go no one remembers these maps the come out and barely get played but everyone remembers story dlc,s like burial at sea for bioshock or dragon born for skyrim. map packs dont even get played if you look at halo 4 when map packs were released the population on those playlists were dead and its not just halo that this happens to cod, battlefeild and more are the same.

id much rather pay for a back story to the main campaign than 5 maps that i wont evenget to play apart from the first week they come out.

I have always wanted story based dlc for Halo. I agree about Spartan Ops. Not the greatest level design, but still fun to play in co-op and the story told was interesting and new.

I would vastly prefer to pay $10 for new story and co-op missions over 3 new multiplayer maps.

It could work, sounds like a good idead to me.

If you’re talking about Spartan Ops, then sure. I don’t want the main story to be cut into DLC. What 343 can make in the main story should be free. That’s that. However, it would be a good idea to have Spartan Ops extended into DLC seasons to pay for more. We won’t need Escalation after that, and it would instead be in-game. 343 can go as far as they want without necessarily confusing players in the next game (with exceptions). In fact, the seasons directly vital to the next game (Next 72 Hours, etc.) could be free.

If something like spartan ops is cut into dlc, thats fine as long as there is still a campaign. However if it goes down a destiny-style route with the main story cut into dlc then its a terrible idea.

Agreed

yeah i was talking more spartan ops style and not the main story think more like bioshock burial at sea

Yh a better version of Spartan Ops would be awesome. Spartan Ops was cool from a story perspective but it got boring visiting the same closed off sections of map over and over. A proper Spartan Ops campaign would be an awesome DLC, much better than map packs. Love your idea man

I think it would be cool if they did a split. Some multiplayer maps (maybe 3?) and some story DLC.

I like the idea of a more fleshed-out Spartan Ops mode. The only things that I didn’t like about Spartan Ops was revisiting the same locations over and over and how shallow the objectives were. I think it would be amazing to have a more intense version of Spartan Ops. Less overall missions, longer missions with campaign-like objectives, more story-driven, actual characters that get developed, etc.

Why not both?

Seriously. Both can be done at the same time, but the DLC price might go from $10 to $15 per pack. An extra $5 I’d gladly pay for. I want new experiences in both War Games and in story content. They could totally do a paid, larger budget Spartan Ops with this.

i’m cool with story dlc like Spartan ops which is what i see people are saying. I’m not ok if it were to cut into the actual main story line of halo though. i’m tired of mm dlc as if one person doesn’t have it in the lobby, you’re not going to be playing it anyways.

More story would be great. Map packs should be free or much cheaper anyway.

Multiplayer map packs only work when they are required to be able to play on the majority of playlists eg. Halo 2, Halo 3, CoD 3. That being said I would love a campaign dlc. I always kind of hoped for one on Reach that would follow Jun, and was hoping for Spartan Ops to be more of an extra campaign.

In terms of the Main Master Chief Arc, do not make downloadable story for that; however, for a side story perhaps happening in the same or different time, with different main cast etc. should definitely be considered.

Isn’t that what Halo 3: ODST was supposed to be?

Originally yes… Just due to the Microsoft-Bungie contract issues of 5 produced games… they made it a stand-alone for quota reasons.

Yeah, something on the order of ODST would be great. Spartan Ops…um…well, it was improving in the second half, but the first half was completely pants. They really shot themselves in the foot when they decided to go the weekly episodic route, along with having all of the interesting story based stuff happen to Majestic. Why not have Spartan Crimson be a part of Team Majestic, and go the Gears of War route, where you team up with different members on different missions?

I say “Spartan Crimson” because due to the low populations in Halo 4, and zero matchmaking for Spartan Ops in the MCC, “Fireteam Crimson” usually just consists of me.

Spartan Ops Episodes 1-5 could have worked really well as one giant Forge-World sized map, and Spartan Ops Episodes 6-10 basically were stated or implied to be part of the same area, minus the Infinity. I have no problems with the dialogue or the characters of Spartan Ops…minus the fact that they never actually did any real fighting. If Sarah Palmer or Dalton was fighting beside us, that would have been awesome. Instead, they’re “monitoring the situation” from orbit. Come on. That’s Roland’s job.

Then there were all of these Fireteams and Scientists we had to rescue and get revenge for. I didn’t know about any of them beforehand, and you gave no reason to actually care about them, so why should I be upset when Fireteam Castle gets shot down? Who are they again?

Throw in some meaningful in-game cutscenes, put the pre-rendered cutscenes on disc, and make them play automatically when launching the appropriate mission, and hey! You’ve actually got your second campaign, instead of the pile of messed-up yoink they gave us.
