I think the story behind it is that they are training. The Spartan’s are competing for the higher ranks. Just a theory though.

It’s possible, but then again it doesn’t make much sense. Maybe if the rebels figured out how to make Spartan’s but I doubt it.

I have always wondered that myself, a bomb I can see to be of more use, but what is a flags purpose; they have these nukes and other explosives that destroy whole solar systems.

I think it’s combat training with AI integration and that is where the re-spawn comes from. We are in the 2500’s I think the technology would be advanced enough for such combat simulators.
Training seems lazy and way too much of a cop out. The fiction in the Halo universe is so intricate and fully realized; I believe it HAS to be something better. And again, they are straight up murdering each other. Ain’t no training simulator for STABBING A DUDE THROUGH THE TOP OF HIS DAMN SKULL.

Well if they’re doing combat simulation it could be practice for retrieving/protecting an item from the enemy side (1 Flag) Or both (in the case of 2 Flag), though Stock Pile is just too much to be explained IMO
