Hey guys, I wanted to start a topic comparing these two, THE STORM RIFLE and the Brute Plasma Rifle. Where’s what I’ve gathered from some testing (non-scientific) and observations:
Brute Plasma Rifle:
4 shots to remove shields, another 10-11 to kill. 14-15 shots total.
Very accurate (for an automatic, certainly the most accurate in the game besides the homing suppressor), little to no recoil. - 1.2x zoom Smart-Link. ROF Slightly slower than STORM RIFLE. It’s ROF is somewhere between the AR and STORM RIFLE. - Speed of projectiles: slightly slower than SR. Fastest time to take out shields in the game (for standard weapons) (??) (excluding a PP pre charged of course). - Can be fired continously for the same amount of time as the SR, but has slightly longer cool down time - Poor heat dissipation when compared with SR (aka, firing in .5s bursts rapidly will overheat it much faster than the SR)STORM RIFLE:
6 shots to remove shields, another 6 to kill. 12 shots total. - (I believe) fastest kill in the game of the standard weapons. - 1.2x zoom Smart-Link, with an actual pretty sight :). - Accuracy is moderate (high magnetism when reticule is set, but has lots of bloom/spread). Also has slight recoil. - Good heat dissipationMy thoughts: BPR is great for the NOOB noob combo quickdraw. Take out shields, switch to magnum for a headshot. It is deadly. You can do this with the STORM RIFLE as well, but it is difficult as it’s not as shield effective, and because of it’s bloom.
STORM RIFLE is still better overall, but the BPR really brings back that ‘plasma weapon’ feel of destroys shields, ok at health. But, overall the BPR is much better than any PR since Halo 3 ODST and of course CE
Judgement: STORM RIFLE MASTER RACE. But Brute Plasma Rifle is Sooooper sick at taking out shields.
Thoughts?
EDIT: ROF for BPR is hard to say actually, because it has a slight ramp up. It’s certainly initially slower than the SR, but it’s full ROF is comparable.
EDIT 2: Noted that the PR also has slight recoil (the BPR has almost zero).
I like the brute plasma rifle but at the same time having a pistol for that headshot is pretty good still feel like it could kill a little faster though

Well canonically the storm rifle is the PR replacement. So the more agreesive BPR makes sense from that standpoint ad well as sandbox

Yeah, but if it killed faster it would make the storm rifle useless. Its differentiated now, and that’s a good thing

Yeah, but it’s a matter of skin. A gun less effective than the h5 BPR would be useless. Plus, as noted, the STORM RIFLE is the successor to the PR. So if they wanted to bring back the PR, it only made sense for it to be the Brute variant, from cannon and gameplay standpoint.

Agreed. It’s basically a full auto PP in terms of damage, with a much better ROF! Deadly when combined with that fast switch magnum. Or even AR if you want to be super nooby lol

One thing I did was count the shots it took to kill simply by getting a buddy to stand still as I shot him, then he did the same, I got 9 to kill with the storm and 12 to kill with the BPR, thats just me. BPR is more accurate
I personally would like the Blue PR to come back, yeah its got a lower fire rate but could make it more accurate, it could fire for longer seeing as it has a brief period before it shoots again meaning it will lose a little more heat than the BPR before firing again, add a very small knockback effect so it can match other weapons a little more and more nostalgia since the HCE PR could stun enemies if constantly hit.

Storm may be the replacement but something so mass produced like the PR shouldn’t just vanish, so Spartans in the simulation should still train with it in case it’s encountered. Even in halo 4 it was shown canonically to still exist even though it wasn’t featured in game

I think if the Halo CE PR is brought back it will be a mythic weapon, instead of a base weapon with variants like the BPR. Super accurate, stun capable, mythic req with speed boost. Ultra Rare with level 4 REQ cost. ??
