i’m going to be reading the thursday war in the near future so i didn’t read this post but if it isn’t relevant to halo 4 then it doesn’t go in the halo 4 section of these forums. it goes in the “halo universe” section or ever “general discussion”

considering the covenant we are fighting in Halo 4 are Storm Covenant, id say this is reasonably relevant? Ive seen a lot of people ask why wer fighting covenant again, why thier armors different etc etc, i was simply trying to provide answers for those people who arent going to get this info otherwise…
Cool.

So was Glasslands the first of the 3 or is it the second? Cause I never knew it was a planned trilogy (besides Greg Bear’s)

Glasslands was the first, Thursday War the second. I too didnt know it was a trilogy until i read “The riveting sequel in the new York Times bestselling Kilo-Five trilogy,” on the front cover lol
So wait, the storm covenant are some long lost colony of covenant that somehow have more-advanced weaponry yet no contact with the rest of the empire, and don’t even know the war is over? That plot is kind of weak if you ask me. . . I like the Storm better as the Covenant’s version of the Insurrection.
Did someone knock the didact out for all those yrs ?
Who is urdidact ?
Is the didact forerunner ?

There weaponry doesnt seem more advanced? they dont have needle rifles, nor plasma rifles or repeaters, less armor etc…
And technically theyre still rebels, they arent allied with the arbiter, who is the ‘leader’ of the elites as such.
I much prefer this new development, the rebels only have like 5 warships, possibly less now. Not very formiddable at all. Plus, ONI has a constant watch on them, and thier essentially in ONI’s pocket, wheras they have no idea about these others, giving them them a big advantage the rebels dont have…

He has been presumably asleep in his cryptum on Requiem all these years yes. The UR-Didact, not sure, possibly the original Didact, im sure well find out soon enough.
And yes, he was a warrior-class forerunner, the highest ranked promethean no-less.
thanks for posting this, now i wont be as confused when i play halo 4
This tells us that the Didact gets cranky when he wakes up.

There are two Didact’s. The original is Ur-Didact.Bornstellar Didact is Bornstellar with Didact’s personality imprinted.
I had this theory in my head from reading Glasslands.

You mean to tell that the plasma repeater and the needle rifle are better than the sexinesses (it’s a word) that are the carbine and the storm rifle???
This is so awesome! The 2 Universes are colliding now, the 1st one being the game’s universe, when we are MC wandering why these elites are fighting us with no apparent reason (a Q that a lot of us asked)
(SPOILERS?)
And now the 2nd one being the fictional Universe which now we actually know why they fight us, Jul seeks vengeance against humans for killing his best friend and wife by going to Requiem to awake the Didact, killing every human he encounters on his way!
Can’t wait!!
Thanks for posting this! I’ve only read half way through Glasslands because of a busy schedule. So it would have taken a while to get to The Thursday War. Lots of good info!

Well 343i had to come up with a cop out to explain the Covenants return. If you ask me, the Covenant wern’t supposed to be in Halo 4 AT ALL. They lost the war in Halo 3 and fell apart. The fight was finished. But because 343i wanted to bring them back for gameplay reasons, they had to make a crappy last minute story explination. So yeah.

What and after 30 years of the most brutal war either side have seen, with an unforgivable genocide in the mix, a simple handshake is going to end all that… Sure thats why racism/segregation etc no longer exists these days, oh wait… Officially the war has ended, but its doubtful either side will ever forgive and forget…

Point is, we finished the fight in Halo 3. The war is over. Halo 4 should have been about a NEW fight, with a NEW enemy, the Prometheans only. But 343i did not feel secure making a Halo game without Covenant, so they wrote up a crappy explaination why the Covenant return in Halo 4. And because Elites were popular enemies in Reach’s campaign, 343i also wrote another crappy explination to make some Elites bad guys again. They didn’t do this to improve or add to the story, if anything they made the story more confusing. They only did this for gameplay purposes.
