It mainly irks me for 2 reasons. First its greedy and exploitative, just because competitors do it doesn’t make it okay, no game should. Secondly, it’s just a stupid business model. While yes, its proven to be very lucrative, it also erodes the games core fanbase therefore, short term profit, long-term decline. A better business model would just be to fully embrace everything that put Halo ahead of all its competition in the past. Armor customization tied to a progression system was a huge standout in halo 3 compared to cod games at that time. If they had released a content complete game, even with F2P multiplayer and just charged more for the battle pass ($15) and released new ones every 3 month while having no store, the game would’ve been more successful. There’s so many other ways they could’ve monetized the game while staying true to Halo and all of them would’ve made infinite better because of it. Instead 343 decided to not learn from their previous game’s mistakes and chose to copy their competitors again, which is ultimately the biggest reason their games consistently flop compared to competitors. Amazingly the business teams there still have not learned what lead to Halo being the leader of the pack in the first place. Ironically, if infinite - released content complete - just made everything unlockable via playing the game and didn’t paywall any cosmetics, it would’ve soared past all of its competition, especially given that its swimming in a sea of -Yoink!-

Your complaints are invalid because you actually expect changes by buying these items in the first place. You are the reason Spartan customization no longer exists and everything is behind a paywall. Because you are the targeted audience since you will spend on these products.
Then people why wonder so many modern games are bad. Because they listen to your suggestions. Rinse repeat cycle. Why are you surprised? Stop buying items from the store. MCC had a free battlepass as well. I don’t get it.
