Storage device might be missing or disconnected

“Halo: The Master Chief Collection can’t open because it is offline. The storage device might be missing or disconnected.” Every time I restart my pc I am greeted by this message when I launch the MCC. When I go to the MS store, it says the MCC needs a repair and must be re-installed, I am on my THIRD re-install now. This only began after the Halo 2 update. Is there a way to fix this?

I’m in the same boat. This is probably the 10th time some issue like this has happened on the Xbox PC Beta app and the Master Chief Collection over the past several months. I just played this a few days ago without issue, and now it doesn’t work again. I can never tell one day to the next if the service will randomly break or not. I always make sure Windows is up to date, I do the Windows Store reset prompt, and every other obvious and obscure fix posted on forums. I think I’ll just get this on Steam and be done with it finally, but still looking for a solution in the meantime, so anything people can offer is appreciated!

Happened to me again today, this is ridiculous.

This is also happening to me, started within the last few days. I literally have to reinstall 70GB update every time I restart my PC in order to play this game because “The storage device might be missing or disconnected.” It is absolutely ridiculous.

I have a support ticket in there, I love the game, I don’t love that I can’t play it.

Please share the outcome of your ticket.

I wonder if its DRM related. I have Gears 5 installed on the same drive and its working all the time. The Forza Horizon 4 (different drive) also is fine.

Same here, play gears 5 and horizon 4 all the time without issue.

Solution found here https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/forums/85d779d52cfd46918b4f8b638f2e3c7b/topics/solution-found-for-mcc-not-launching-after-restart/702ec981-3934-440e-b6f6-aa92b034285a/posts

Okay so, I’ve managed to fix the problem for my pc.
I went to add or remove programs; Halo: The Master Chief Collection; Advanced Options; hit repair, reset, then went back to programs, and did the same thing for xbox.
I then restarted the xbox app, halo mcc was missing. I searched for and ‘downloaded’ it, but it auto-completed in about 30 seconds as it was already downloaded.
Start Halo: MCC and all is fixed and working well!
I hope this works for you all too! Good luck!

Is it still working after a reboot? I’m having the same issue but when I try to repair the issue will pop back up again after powering down my PC/rebooting

Awesome!

i need help too

I had the same issue. However I found that my MCC was in the middle of an update through the Microsoft Store that I failed to notice. I finished updating MCC and it launched properly. Hope this helps!
