Stopping Flamethrower and Marine Rush

Anyone have good tips to stop cutter’s flame and marine rush? I’m talking higher level. I can handle lower player rushes no problem, but when someone knows what they’re doing I don’t win as much as I’d like. Do two turrets upgraded work well enough without setting you back too far? Or as colony should I try massing skitter’s? I find the skitter’s to be decent at kiting the flamers, but they get wrecked when marines get their grenade throw. Suicide grunts are kinda meh as well, and teching up is too slow it seems.

You being a champion and all, I expect that few people here will be able to provide you with real help, but I suppose someone could mention something you’ve overlooked.

At the same time, I like these threads because I get to learn some stuff too.

This is true, I suppose the best way would be to practice against someone in custom games trying out every different idea. I was just hoping someone had maybe figured it out.

What top level players? Looking at the leaderboards I’m seeing a lot of Cutter. I’m going to be honest there really isn’t any player or group of players who just by far the best players. I’ve played against top ten and I’ve won and lost. Without using Kinsano. I think you’re going to see a lot of those “top” players coming back to earth now that they can’t auto win against banished with Kinsano.

I’d disagree, but we can have our own opinions.

Spamming scout units chopper or ghost and ramming them.

If you scout it and know it’s coming two turrets up no upgrades supply supply generator double barracks lock base double pump suicide grunts wait for marines to throw grenades then unlock and laugh.

I also am frustrated by this, for me the problem is the flamers torch the base way to fast. Have to try suicide grunts still. Bases should take less damage from flame and brute mines. Top players exploit these cheap rushes. This is at about 4-5 min mark. Also have 3 turret on base.

Kinda like Rudy said, I don’t know how much my advice will actually help you…that said Suicide Grunts/Scouts work for me. The Grunts decimate the Hellbringers, and Choppers/Scouts can handle the Marines.

Also if you’re running Colony having Choppers combined with Skitterers is a pretty good counter. But this is just advice from an Onyx player

Suicide grunts and either some grunts or scouts, but srsly this is so easy it’s a joke. Atriox and colony may have a slightly harder time, but ship just teles onto the opponent and decimus uses vortex. You shouldn’t be making turrets as banished anymore.

You will need to have a lot of Suicide Grunts (SG) to counter a good Cutter infantry rush. I go in with Marines, Flamethrowers and Snipers.
Good Cutter players will scout with JR and avoid SG and attack from the side and let the Snipers and Grenades take them out.
The only time I get countered is with Anti-Infantry turrets or if you tech 2 and get out Warthogs. I have only lost to other Cutters, Banished are sooooooo easy to Rush. They will get to tech 2 but only have 1 or 2 air, vehicles or Rangers. At tech 1 they have only SG and turrets.

Do you play on Xbox or PC? I play a lot of custom 1s with champion level banished players. I have mained Cutter since day 1 and it seems shipmaster has the easiest time countering this. Teleporting suicide grunts into their army is brutal. Doesn’t matter if I have snipers/great micro and splits. The suicide grunts charge goes off installly and will kill many units. Complimenting this will mass grunts and 1-2 engineers will usually force a retreat. Time this attack/defense with your first main expansion and you’ll be ahead the rest of the game.

Build scouts and micro your units to avoid Grenades.

This will stop most rushes just be careful not to over commit to the production of scouts,
(They are Expensive!)

Bonus:
Build an apex on a mini base for a couple engineers
just focuses there heals on whatever the target is.
This can stall long enough for your scouts to kill off the rush or outright save all your building’s.

I only play on PC otherwise I would. That strategy should work even better on Xbox since marines can’t be microed as well.

Suicide Grunts. I counter it with UNSC by going Marines/Flamers and mixing in a couple Snipers. I also Main Cutter as of right now so take this as you wish.

I do the same vs any other banished except shipmaster. Works well so long as you dont let any scout vehicles ram your snipers, they die instantly. However shipmasters early teleport allows him to put his suicide grunts right on top of your snipers/marines/flamers. Going to try countering this tonight as Cutter. I’m thinking 4 JR with only launcher upgrade to roll in ahead of infantry army to try and focus down suicide grunts.
