STOP PUTTING CLASSIC REQS IN ARENA.

Just played Assault on Empire and there’s a SPNKr as the middle power weapon now.

…Why?

343, why do insist on putting SPNKrs and H2 BRs into standard Arena matchmaking? The novelty has worn off since that stuff came out months ago. Yeah fine, showcase them on the new maps that released alongside them just so people can check them out, and after that they should have been replaced, not put on MORE maps.

Seriously, I don’t get it. Why does 343 insist on having the SPNKr overshadow the brand new rocket launcher they made for Halo 5?

Why did they insist on making a new rocket launcher in the first place?

Maybe because the new one is boring and looks like a green boomwhacker

The rockets are essentially identical in terms of functionality and I prefer the more classic rocket launcher look so what’s the big deal? I also like the halo 2 br over the halo 5 one. Having them on map isn’t an issue at all imo.

Where’s the downvote button when you need it?

Because obviously they knoe that the classic design is better.

Because the new Rocket Launcher is bad and it should feel bad.

The new rocket launcher is way cooler, I don’t know what you guys are smoking.

The thing sounds like an absolute beast when you fire it.

The old school zoom and the corny old-school firing sound of the SPNKr doesn’t belong in Halo 5. It’s unbelievably tacky that they’re mixing old and new.

Because both rockets have separate commendations, or to give that feeling of variety.

Well the feeling of tackiness outweighs the feeling of variety.

Classic REQ weapons have no place in standard Arena multiplayer. Go to Warzone or custom games if you want that.

I don’t see the issue

Looks like you are alone on this one. Nothing wrong with variety in Arena. Plus I still need to finish that commendation so it definitely works for me.

People begged for those classic reqs. A lot of people think the new designs are inferior. With the rocket launcher I agree. Your personal tastes are not what determines weapon placement.

Why not?

I’m fine with the rockets. What bugs me is changing the plasma caster to a fuel rod on Truth.

Think about what you just said there.

Why would 343 be insisting on replacing their own rocket design? Does that make sense? No. Hence why you don’t get it, I know. But let’s think. Is it perhaps because they aren’t the ones insisting?

The SPNKr is Halo’s rocket launcher. People have been gettin’ spanked by it since 2001 (that’s why it’s pronounced “spanker”, guys, okay? Not “spunker”, you weirdos.) Just putting that out there while we’re on the subject.

I much prefer to have new one. Better acceleration apparently.

The new rocket launcher is a green, generic blob. It has no visually distinct features to it. In all fairness, I’m sure it more closely resembles modern portable rocket launchers than the SPNKr does. But the SPNKr is, most importantly, visually distinct. You can’t confuse what game it’s from, and you can recognize it just from its silhouette.

To answer your question in general, though, the old-school M41 SSR launcher and the BR55 Service Rifle do not behave precisely the same as the new M57 Pilum Assault Weapon and the BR85N Service Rifle respectively.

  • Both rocket launchers have an identical timeframe for firing two rockets and reloading, but the M41 fires faster and reloads slower than the M57. I think this lends functionality more to the new launcher, since you seldom should need two rockets that fast as you should need to reload
  • The rockets fired by the new launcher come out at the same speed as the SPNKr, but accelerate. The SPNKr’s rockets do not do this
  • The BR55 has a faster reload time, slightly, than the BR85N
  • The BR85N has notable recoil with each shot, causing a vertical spread of the burst of bullets; zooming or crouching mitigates this, and zooming and crouching negates it entirely. The BR55, on the other hand, has a less notable recoil, and it is not affected by crouch or zoom
  • The important one: the BR55 actually has a slower kill-time than the BR85N, by a fraction of a second. On the flip (and a damn good flip), the BR55 has some pretty incredible bullet magnetism, allowing for some fairly clear misses to land every bullet.

What this means is that the SPNKr is a lower-performance rocket launcher. It is probably used most frequently when the Pilum would be too effective, like on maps with long, clear sightlines. As has been mentioned, 343 also made the dubious choice of creating a unique commendation specifically for the SPNKr, and it would be -Yoink- of them to put it in there but not let you earn it. The Halo 2 Battle Rifle is, in essence, a pseudo-power weapon, as though it has a lower optimal kill-time than the default, it generally ends up being a faster, more reliable kill, as fewer of your bullets miss as the enemy strafes, you jump, etc.

You must not have played at launch when they put the plasma caster on every single map to shove it down our throats.

I don’t get it either. 343i likes change, I personally prefer the older designs.
