stop old vs new halo debate ( FROM AN old fan)

TLDR? Go to the last 2 paragraphs…
One year after. Nothing has changed. People are still stuck between the old and golden days and the new modern COD-esque Halo. I have a full ride to the University of Michigan and am quite busy here, so sorry if this won’t be as detailed as some of my other posts. Sorry guys, its been a while (I see your messages you send). This paragraph is meant for those who want to know what I’ve been doing (as I said, I’ve seen your messages asking where I’ve been) and this isn’t some kind of statement I’m trying to “brag” about.

Anyways, nothing has changed for the last 7 years. I still remember these arguments brewing from 7 years ago. Halo 4 made lots of people go away (we all know why,) and even though some people on these forums and the big Halo YouTubers claim Halo 5 brought the community “back together” the issue has been compounded to such a point where its almost undeniable to say that my view of Halo, which matches up similarly but not exactly with the common “return to the roots which made it great”, has to be in the minority from this point on.

The only people who have stayed after the controversial reach, the failure of 4 and the nightmare of MCC, as well as the half-hearted effort to “bring the community together” in halo 5, are the people who have loved the new style since Reach. The mentality of these players, I will never understand (no offense.) I mean, just today I got a notification about a message I wrote, where I said "Halo 3 sold 15 million and Halo 5 sold around 5 million. That’s a 66% decrease in 9 years, and Halo is supposed to survive for ‘30 years.’" Some guy says," well actually it sold 12.5 million." so many of you miss the point… the point is that its on an incredible decline not usually seen by blockbuster franchises that are flagships of a console. The point isn’t that I was inaccurate in my statement.
TLDR HERE
ANYWAYS, to get to the actual point, I have given up. I don’t know how many fans are still around that believe in Halo the same way I do (I’ve even memorized the trilogy soundtrack). I just want to say, I give up. Congrats to all my 343- lover nemesis’s (nemesi?), misinformed fans, people who have only played 5 but judge the other games, and those of you who simply just like the new style because you started playing Halo since Reach, you all have won in the end. Halo, at this point, is hanging onto its roots by a rope composed of a half-ripped thread. I don’t know how the old fans that still share my opinions still keep up, so I just want to say, Halo is yours now. In my opinion, you have destroyed many people’s favorite franchise in these last 7 years. 7 years ago, you were all a minority in your opinion, and we looked down at you with amusement and shock with how you thought Halo should be. 7 years later, you all look at us with discontempt, unreliable people looking through nostalgia goggles and just too attached to the old days.

Things change. Halo has changed, and while I will buy Halo as long as Master Chief is in it, you are now the fanbase that Halo belongs to. The torch has been passed on to you, the second generation of Halo fans, and there is nothing people like me can do about it.
This doesn’t mean I’m quitting Halo; I am quitting giving out my constructive criticism and commentary since my views are now shared by the minority at this point. I am very sorry for all of you who send me messages about how great and accurate my posts are that I will stop.

edit:: See? This is EXACTLY WHAT I’m TALKING ABOUT.
People on here" Well I am a veteran so what are you talking about? I still play Halo"
I DO TOO! The WHOLE POINT OF THIS IS THAT WE ARE IN THE MINORITY! ITS SO OBVIOUS THAT SOME PEOPLE STILL PLAY!! Why do I even bother… I’ve only met around 50 people on here who understand the bigger picture…

You know it!!!

God -Yoink!- complainies.
First it was the single complanie.
Then it was the complanie twins.
It then changed into complanie triplets.
Fast forward to now, it’s the complanie nation filled with all the complanies.

Just stop complaining. Whether it’s about the new fanbase, the new games, the high TTKs, the frigging kill medals, it’s not going to get anything done, aside from people who don’t share your opinions getting mad, and possibly an argument breaking out in the comments. If we all stop being complanies, the community will become less toxic, and there will be more intuitive and interesting threads.

> I’ve even memorized the trilogy soundtrack

I don’t know what to say about this. Honestly, this kind of disturbs me. How much play time do you have on those games? Or hopefully you just downloaded the OST. If you didn’t, well, I really hope you’re doing alright.

I guess I’m a complanie for complaining about complanies, but it’s for a good cause, right?

I’m just saying that I am done, and those who follow the old ways of halo should stop too. This doesn’t mean I now love the new way of Halo; I just can’t complain since we are in the minority now. And lol man, I just listen to the OST while studying sometimes for many years. Its inconceivable to have someone memorize all the tracks from playing, especially when some of them don’t even appear in the games

> And lol man, I just listen to the OST while studying sometimes for many years. Its inconceivable to have someone memorize all the tracks from playing, especially when some of them don’t even appear in the games

That requires dedication. I’ve only memorised about 2 albums from my favourite musician. An entire game OST is a whole new league.

Have over 20 days into halo 3… I lived in that game… that’s just the mp alone, excluding all the customs and forge, and Campaign.

I’m talking Halo 1-3 here. 5 Hours of music, but it isn’t crazy when you realize I usually repeat all three OSTs in my playlist around once a week for the last 3 years.

The game was that good. I think I spent double that on Halo 2 vista.

Holy frig, I spent so much time on Halo 2 Vista.
Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much.
It’s where I first mastered crouch jumping.
Lots of time playing with the Ghost of Lockout.
And I discovered a shnizzle ton of easter eggs/glitches. I started uploading a few to youtube.

Lol… did the same things. I was little then… too afraid of the Ghost of Lockout. I used to run with a group of other really good Halo 2 players… We were the “cool guys” on every server… Man do I miss the old infection days on Zanzibar and that new Mombasa map. These kinds of memories literally defined my childhood.

Halo Five has reached back into it’s roots and turned to what made it great.
I am an old halo player. I played halo on my buddies xbox, and went and bought the console and halo that very day. I’ve gotten sixteen people over to my house for lan parties on halo ce and played online, on Xbox connect, before xbox live was even around.

I’ve Played all the halos. Halo Ce was my life. I have vhs tapes of games I recorded at lan parties and watched them later when everyone left. Halo Two was great, then three was better. Reach was funky, but I still loved it.

Then came halo four. I thought it was over. Call of duty nonsense had bled over into my favorite franchise of all time and diluted it with something disgusting. Gone were the old fashioned ways of playing. You know, map control, team work, coordination? Now it was all active camo dmr camp fest. The armor abilities were just getting to extreme, reducing what was once a fantastic sandbox formula to mindless ability spamming.

Halo Five has gone back to its roots. it has returned to what once made it golden. Yes, we’re missing tons of game types, some better map mixes and split screen. But it’s a step back into the right direction.

For A long time fan, baby steps are enough for me, man.

Dear OP,
Your TL;DR…was…too long; I didn’t read it…

Hi, I’d like to hammer this point home once and for all.
Fans here need to stop pointing fingers at Reach, H4, & the MCC.
You guys need an education in historical popular culture to frame against this current situation.
The Halo franchise has the cool factor of 1980’s hair metal the day after grunge broke.
And like old dirty metal heads in mosh pit we all have been bouncing off one another and getting black eyes.
The classic Halo formula isn’t going to magically draw in 10 million more players.
To sum it up the core fans will be here to the end while H2/3 fans are still dragging their feet on the classic formula.
Sorry, but, I’m someone who started with good old HCE and I still want modernization in Halo.

> Things change. Halo has changed, and while I will buy Halo as long as Master Chief is in it, you are now the fanbase that Halo belongs to. The torch has been passed on to you, the second generation of Halo fans, and there is nothing people like me can do about it.

Okay, first off. I’ve played all the numbered Halos and am in the middle of Reach, so I’m allowed to judge those games, and I gotta say, the movement in Halos CE-Reach sucked. It felt slow, clunky, and weird. And in this super mobile day and age, Halo needed to change to get new players, because even if it didn’t change, by Halo 8 the “original” fanbase would either be tired of the old formula or just wouldn’t care. It didn’t even change that much, just added new movement abilities, flashy animations, and added better weapon balence, at its core it is still Halo. Halo’s “triple tap” has always been guns, grenades, and melee, a sandbox where all three could compete with eachother. Vehicles came after that, but are still essential. It’s still like that.
Second, while I do praise 5 for a lpt of things, I need to address the downfalls. Microtransactions and the Campaign. Microtransactions aren’t that bad, but we didn’t need them. But the campaign was a total failure. Too short, no memorable moments, too many Wardens, too hard for new Haloians to get in to, a confusing story, and you have no impact on the plot. It took me around 4 hours to complete on easy, 5.5 on normal. The only thing that was memorable was Suinion, running down the Guardian, and saving the Arbiter. Was around 9 Wardens which is way too many. My friend, who is new to Halo, couldn’t understand the story and I had to explain what was happening, why some characters are damaged or hurt, and the relations between characters. And even I was like, “Why the -Yoink- did they do that?” And the only thing you do is follow Chief and save him. He wouldn’t need saving if he didn’t do anything. If both teams were removed from the story, virtually nothing would change.
My conclusion is: You’re being too hard on Halo 5 and the direction Halo is going in in general. Chill out and relax, man. Halo 5 gets an 7.75/10, good engine, great gameplay/multiplayer, -Yoink- story.

Halo pc mods were the best man… to bad I screwed up the config files on mine so I can’t play it for the time being… lol

  1. “Complaining solves nothing”

Complaining got flinch, bloom, AA’s, loadouts, ordnance, and perks removed from the game. Complaining got equal starts brought back in to the game.

  1. “Classic Halo won’t bring in 10 million players”

Apparently neither will Modern Halo either. Halo 4 died, and Halo 5 sold about 6 million and just a year after it’s release sits at 22nd most played game. Even MCC stayed in the top ten until Halo 5 launched, and stayed in the top 20 for a while afterwards.

Let’s face it, Modern Halo offers nothing that Cod, Destiny, BF4, BF1, and R6: Siege doesn’t. Modern Halo hasn’t built its own community, because the people it’s trying to attract already have 5 or 6 other options for a similar experiences to choose from.

I’m not saying Classic Halo would perform better, but let’s stop pretending like this “evolution of Halo” has saved the franchise.

Hope is all we have left, do not discard it. Resist because you must not because you want to and you’ll find an infinite well of resolve.
