They look AWFUL! Halo 2 had better water! Halo 3 had better shrubs/grass/trees. Seriously, if they can’t use the engine then don’t let them.
Headlong and hang em high look fine (except the water is worse than H2 in HL) but that remake of timerland is unplayable its so hideous. Water falls going into rocks directly then appearing the stream 5ft down? Water going right through a piece of land that goes over the creek? Its also so flat and grey and dull shrubs dont appear unless your right next to them making it look so flat at a distance like its on Split Screen.
At least its better than Forge World.
Anyway the water on Breakneck looks better to me atleast, and I think its the engine, not CA, all of the maps in reach have worse water effects than Halo 3.
Sorry but when Halo 3 had the amazing water in all the streams and then some Reach maps but then when you compare Bungie’s graphics to Certain Affinity they are just awful. Hopefully Halo 4 doesn’t look that bad. And hopefully 343 makes them.
Yes Breakneck is better than the other map but its Grey. ik its a city blah blah blah but come on its Halo. Supposed to have nice water color and brightness etc. Not a grey cloud. im picky with my Halo and when you start messing it up and making it look got awful, i get angry >:[ lol
btw we need more classic playlists like BTB and Squad because Reach MM is just bad. thanks <3

These maps look WAY better than Halo 3 or anything in Reach with the exception of Tempest. I honestly can’t see any of the problems you see with the exception of the weird water on Breakneck.
Also that water fall thing on Ridgeline, are you blind? The water is splashing over and in between the rocks into the stream.

It has the same aesthetic as ODST, and is much more colorful than the original…
I think they look beautiful. I do agree though, they seem to make water run directly threw objects and it is distracting. It could be just the engine’s capabilities though.

That is how the water works in every Halo and every video game for that matter. They counter act it buy putting white sections of water around the object.
lol CA only did 1 map pack for bungie lol and the water clearly goes into the rock with a minor splash that comes out from under the rocks lmao it doesnt flow over them. point is that 1 map looks god awful and any water CA does is just ugly. Wish they kept H3 water. If CA does any more maps it shouldnt have water and it will look decent
You all realize that water and hair (completely unrelated but still true) are the two hardest things to animate. I have not played Timberland enough to notice the weird water interaction with rocks. The water on Headlong is on a part of the map you rarely get to see, so I have not really noticed the water. Going back to Halo 3 and comparing the water to Reach, I think Halo 3’s water is better, possibly the best in video games (all IMO).

I’m almost positive CA made a map pack in Halo 2, the one that had Tombstone (Hang em’ High remake). Might be wrong though.
I haven’t seen any aesthetic issues with Certain Affinity’s maps, but their maps have consistently been terrible for Forge.
Highlands’ few pieces were all incompatible with Phased physics, one of the biggest innovations in Reach. Condemned contained numerous pieces that used the Forge file format, but weren’t actually in the Forge menus, effectively making them needlessly developer-only. The Anniversary maps have just the amount of pieces that CA needed to differentiate the Reach and Annie variants, along with an afterthought copypasta Forge-World-clone palette that doesn’t fit with the maps’ natural or Forerunner scenery, and that has the most useful pieces removed. This is before getting into the numerous problems with the maps themselves, rather than their palettes, that cripple their usefulness in Forge.
The upshot of which is that I’m with the OP on this one. Certain Affinity has been disregarding Forge or else treating it like an unimportant afterthought. A disregard of Forge is a disregard of those who use it, and those who enjoy community maps and content. I seriously hope that CA not charged with handling any future map packs unless that disregard ceases.
These are some of the best maps in Reach. Screw the rest of the reach disc. I only need the anniversary because this is all i am going to play for now.
The maps are good maps seeing as how i love all the maps they added but im simply saying if you compare looks, not overall appearance, but down to the details they look poor compared to the rest of the maps whether it is the water, the brush etc.
And also yes I have also noticed they make forge almost pointless I really hope Halo 4 has a more varied forge and goes back to the original Halo look. more detail yes but the color scheme on Reach tries to be too dark and gritty for Halo IMO and it doesnt present the same beauty as Halo 3 (again, water as an example if you look at Valhalla compared to any Reach map)
