Ranked challenges should not be included in weekly challenges, especially not challenges that require you to WIN ranked matches. This is not about “git gud” or similar. There are people who don’t want to play ranked with a bunch of try-hards who insult you for every mistake they themselves make or for your team’s loss. Many people are also now at the top reachable rank of their skill level or even higher rank than their skill level and so have long losing streaks because they are placed against people much better than them as so hardly get any wins. Removing ranked challenges will also benefit ranked try-hards, because they will no longer get casuals flooding into their games, letting them only play with and against other try-hards.
“But you can swap ranked challenges out if you don’t like them!”
There are videos online of people wasting 5+ swaps trying and failing to get rid of ranked challenges only for every swap to give a different ranked challenge. We should not be forced to burn swaps for a gametype that should only be played by people serious about rank. Swaps are limited unless you are a whale, and I am sure no one wants to burn $10 from repeatedly trying to swap out ranked challenges.
Challenges should only be directed towards non-ranked gametypes.
And before the try-hards flame me, let me answer some of your questions. No, I am not Onyx or even Diamond. I am probably low Diamond by skill level, but I hate playing rank and so have no desire to grind up to my actual skill rank. Yes, I am a casual player that only plays for fun because I have a life that does not allow me to play for hours on end every day.
You don’t need to play a lot of the game to be Diamond or Onyx level dude. I’m glad you have a life, so do most players ranked and social.
The swapping ranked challenges and getting ranked challenges was because they were worth double exp for the HCS Rayleigh event that weekend. It was a one off. Usually if you swap a ranked challenge it won’t be likely it is replaced with any other ranked challenge.
People using the word force is such a pet peeve of mine. You aren’t forced to do anything.
I could also complain that I only get to play for a limited time and I am “forced” to play Fiesta or FFA to do my challenges when really I just want to play Ranked.
Realistically the challenges should push people out of their usual comforts, play in a different way, use other weapons, aim to achieve different things, try different playlists. They are there to make the game more varied and to encourage players to try everything which helps keep playlist population healthy.
Your comparison of not wanting to play certain game types is not quite the same when ladder/ranking systems are involved. Every game with a ladder system separates ladder from quick matches for the sole reason that people who tend to enjoy ladder are often serious about it and their ranking. Having a system that pushes casual people into ranked is bad for everyone, both the casual and the people who want to play ranked.
Those who want to play ranked will naturally play it for the struggle up the ladder and the bragging rights of their rank, whether they do challenges or not. That’s the difference. It’s not about challenges “pushing you out of your comfort zone.” Challenges that push people into playing rank are fundamentally flawed game design.
And there are many, many challenges that you can complete in ranked just fine but are not “ranked only” if you want to play ranked to complete them.
Challenges like “win a match of…” should be removed. Win a match is a “team challenge” not a personal challenge.
Challenges should have a personal character like “secure 5 strongholds in one match”, “get doubles”, “get 20 commando kills”, “just finish 5 oddball matches” and so on.
