Stop Complaning about the Wasp being a "Reskin"

I just don’t get it. Just because it has a UNSC Skin and shoots machine guns and missiles, doesn’t make it a Phaeton or Banshee reskin. Now, if they painted a Phaeton or Banshee in UNSC Colors, then I wouldn’t be writing this forum post, but they made this completely new model for a vehicle we’ve been begging them for since even before the game released. If they released the Brute Prowler in Halo 5 instead of Halo 3, would you have said, “The Prowler is a Warthog Reskin”?

If I get my forum post locked for some reason, since I’ve seen it happen before, then fine. I just felt like I should have said something considering 343i is listening to us, and a lot of us are just complaining.

I bet if the wasp was like the falcon no one would be complaining about it being a reskin.

I would’ve liked the Falcon, I’m sure a lot of people would like it back as well. But something is better than nothing.

I think the Wasp looks awesome, a good successor to the Hornet. I love it!

Did I miss something? The Wasp is a Phateon in disguise?

Also, yes, it’s called a “reskin” for a purpose if it is a Phateon with a UNSC model.

A reskin describe an item that is essentially a copy of another, but with different visuals, and that means different models as well.
For instance, if you took all the stats of the SMG and applied them to the AR, the AR would be a reskin of the SMG, even though it’s in an AR skin / model.

If I take the sword, and put a sniper model on it, it’s still a reskined sword.

If they released the Prowler with how it functioned in Halo 3, I wouldn’t say it was a Warthog reskin.
Then again I always thought it was a Warthog variant in the first place.

I’m more interested in the Wasp’s maneuvering abilities. I hope they are Unique and set apart from the Phaeton.

I’d be satisfied with the Wasp having sustained boost in all directions. That seems fitting.

Agreed. Because people being a lil’ too wanting of purely the Falcon. I’d RATHER have this, a NEW UNSC flying vehicle, as apposed to old. The only old stuff I want back would be: The Spectre, Hornet, or playable Elites. But I do so enjoy newer features, so it feels refreshing. I do not hate the old stuff, I really like it actually, just I like more refreshing things, they keep me hooked on a series.

Wasp has hitscan bullets. Phaeton doesn’t. Therefore, its not a reskin.

I said this in the main reveal thread, other than the front angle of the cockpit the model is completely different. I’d also imagine it plays very differently, quicker and has aerial maneuvers similar to the banshee.

It’s otherwise the same?

To me that sounds like a reskin.

we don’t even know how else it will play like. i assume it will only fire 2 rockets at a time, and the machine guns will probably be on a cooldown. im hoping that it can switch modes from flying like a plane to helicopter so we can do a-10 like runs on the enemy, we know it has shields and is weak, and other than that, we really don’t know.

Wait? You people exist? People that know the difference between a reskin and a variation? YES. I thought I was alone. XD

In the article they described it as:

“In-game, players will want to use it as a quick-strike vehicle, flying in low for a kill and bugging out quick to allow the shields to recharge. The armor on the Wasp is light in order to keep it aloft, so the recharging shield provides the moderate protection needed to re-engage at a later time. The key is to keep moving, drop in low to maximize weapon effectiveness, and steer clear of vehicles with heavy weapons.”

Now, to me, this sounds similar to the Phaeton. But we will have to see actual gameplay for final judgement.

I do think it looks similar to the Phaeton though, I just hope it plays differently.

> I bet if the wasp was like the falcon no one would be complaining about it being a reskin.

If it was the Falcon, I’d be complaining how useless it’d be without gunners, and how I’d probably never be able to use it effectively due to players commonly avoiding vehicle use as a passenger.

If it turns out not to be a reskin, though, I wonder if the detractors will decide to give 343 credit where it’s due. (nonwithstanding that we’d already have one more unique flyable vehicle than any other title if this is the case)

I’m personally waiting until I see gameplay before I blow the whistle on it being a reskin, but I usually give the benefit of the doubt.

That’s never how I see Phaetons used.

“Reskin” is going a bit far, true. But based on information about the Wasp that we have right now, it is functionally similar to the Phaeton, both in its battlefield role and how is plays. This was a missed opportunity for 343i to add a vehicle that doesn’t already fit into an existing niche; the Falcon would have been an addition that added a novel dynamic to Warzone, having capacity as a troop transporter and air-to-surface/air-to-air fighter. Not to mention the fact that the Falcon lends itself naturally to variants (machine gun variant and grenade launcher variant).
The Wasp may not be a reskin of the Phaeton, but what does it do differently? Pilot-controlled weapons, vertical capability, missiles and rapid-fire gun, 1 man per vehicle. The only differences seems to be that the Wasp is weaker and faster, which to me doesn’t seem like enough of a difference for the Wasp to fulfill an entirely different roll from the Phaeton.

Hilariously, the Phaeton can be seen as a reskin of a Hornet. So if that’s true, then the Wasp is really just a hornet, by that same logic.

I’m impressed you see a working phaeton in the first place. They get destroyed way to quickly.

Hornet had passengers so that is a pretty big difference.

True.
