3 armor sets should not cost me the price of a AAA title.
Okay, well then… how do you expect them to make money?
The game is free to play. But it costs money to host the servers that make it run. On top of that, development and continuous updates, bug fixes, and balances patches are expensive. Developers need to be paid, and development time needs to be allocated to keep this game running. A continuous cashflow is required to keep this game alive, and a one time $60 fee is not going to cut it in 2021. Between inflation, increased development costs, and just the sheer complexity of modern games, there needs to be a different monetization system to keep a multiplayer game alive for us to enjoy. Monetized cosmetics is probably the easiest and least detrimental way to do that.
For me personally, I don’t want things to be handed to me like you described; that would suck!
What I do I want though, is to be able to earn armors and feel like the time I spend in the game adds up to more than just getting a little bit better at the shooting aspects of the game. I want to be able to put in some blood, sweat and tears for a cool piece of armor and feel proud when I finally get it.
As it stands now, I can’t do that because the only way to earn the armor is to either buy it, or treat PvP like it is my full-time job.
True, I loved this game, I would’ve loved a sequel. It would be nice if there was another FPS with Mechas.
This is going to be a rough ride.
What that means is that, i343 is handling the community extremely poorly. “Having thier way” with others, so to speak.
That’s with the monetization strategy they’ve chosen.
Now, instead of criticising and trying to make it more consumer friendly, you do the opposite. People should be happy with a bad system and it shouldn’t be more consumer friendly.
You’re “bending over” for i343 to have it entirely their way, and telling others to also bend over.
As somebody who plays fortnite too, I’m desensitised to the pricing. I just don’t like the battle pass progression, I always buy them in fortnite because it gives me reason to keep playing and work towards something but doing that here is painful without the xp boosts and challenge swaps.
Even worse, even when you disable crossplay entirely through the Xbox settings, Infinite still somehow forces it. It’s downright insulting.

No threads should be locked unless they are bigotted or racist. This “censoring the internet” is getting really old and will never work in the long run.
“Horrendous too”. Ok, so you admit these are horrendous. But you’re justifying it because CoD’s are horrendous too. Can’t we just, do better? And when do we get to speak up about “horrendous” things in the video games we know and love? Should we leave a note in the suggestions box?
Customizing armor has been part of halo for a long time now. Shouldn’t be a lot to ask for a handful of free cores and a couple per pass. Halo 5 had 250+ different helmets alone - they could easily afford to give away 10 to give people some options to start with and throw in 1-2 for free per season pass. They’d still have hundreds as they will make more new ones to put on the store for 20 dollars LOL. And as you said everything is more expensive now - don’t need -Yoink!- nickle and diming us to death too. Miss the good ole days of a 15 dollar map pack once a year (which a lot of you whined about too, this is a consequence of that).
Ok, this? This is disgusting, and more toxic than the standard issue 343 defense force (which is kind of impressive in a way)
Ms. Stern most likely did not make the progression system, nor, would she be be the decision maker on the MTX. She’s also an experienced professional, and as such not the kind of person being badly harmed by small price increases at the grocery store. Beyond that, 343 devs aren’t paid by MTX, she draws a salary. The implication that we’re taking food from her children’s mouths by criticizing monetization is absurd.
You are using that person as a meat shield to deflect criticism from a the corporate entity that will reap the rewards of monetization. It’s vile, and you should be ashamed of yourself.
this is the simpiest post I have seen on this forum, Customizing your armor is in Halo’s DNA its been that way since Halo 3 and the fact you think because they are cosmetic only it doesn’t matter is a testament to how screwed the gaming market is, Halo should be better than the norm not worse.
No, I don’t think I will.
I would gladly pay more for a full game. Free to pay is complete BS
Had one locked about an hour ago for saying I don’t think 343 delivered on the 6 years they had to develop this. Think I struck a nerve.
Im glad your okay with content being cut and paywalled so that you can enjoy the game for a few months and leave, and then the whole community suffers when all you f2p players leave for the next big f2p game and leave halo infinite dead in the water
This whole “the game is Free To Play, so you can’t criticize it!” is a terrible hill to die on. Many of us with it WASN"T F2P. It didn’t have to be. 343i were not being nice by making it F2P, it was a decision to drive sales in microtransactions. They didn’t add new features and modes to the game to drive sales… they locked away previous aspects of the game that have been a staple for over a decade. And I’m tired of hearing how multiplayer is “free” when the campaign is still launching at a full $60. They just tore a piece of the full game out, and still charge $60. Then they get to hide behind “oh multiplayer is free, so its fair for us to charge whatever we want for a single color”. No. They’re just reselling us something that is normally included in every game.
This is much more than “milk is more expensive now” (what a dumb comment). It’s not like they decided to make the game $70 instead of $60. They decided a single helmet, two shoulder pads, and the color White was worth $20 by itself. It’s a matter of value. Saying “well if you don’t like it don’t pay for it, you don’t need it” is dumb. If you had to pay $30 a season to play ranked or BTB, would you be saying “well you have quick play so you don’t need it, stop complaining!” That’s ridiculous. We’re getting a shell of the full experience.
Worst of all, this all goes completely against what they’ve been telling us for years regarding how the monetization would function. We can’t let companies get away with this kind of stuff, otherwise it will become the norm.
Why are you concerning yourself with a developer’s personal life?
That’s overstepping your boundaries good sir. Meddling -Yoink!-.
You people keep saying well how will they make money? Idk maybe how they did for the last 15 -Yoink!- years?
