Stop calling it "DLC" - It isn't DLC...

So, I keep seeing threads of people supporting the REQ system as it continues to go downhill (thanks Microsoft)
But guys, stop calling it “DLC”
They are updates.
If it was DLC, we would have a choice.
Downloadable content.
They are update, the game is updated, the content that is added, has to be added, or you can’t play.
If it was DLC I’d be uninstalling it all to save my hard drive…
(What’s with the 90gb btw, 343…Microsoft.)

DLC is DLC regardless of whether its free or not. If it includes new content, its DLC; hence the name. It’s just added through an update rather than as a standalone expansion.

Except they are DownLoadable Content. The updates don’t just appear out of nowhere. You have to download them.

DLC stands for Downloadable Content. This means that if I want to download some extra content, I can. The halo 5 “DLC” is just a bunch of free forced updates. I can’t choose to download his content, I can’t play my game without it, this not making it DLC.

So would you call something a developer puts out to nerf or buff a weapon like the pool of radiance DLC?

Then its mandatory DLC.

If its an update with new content, then its DLC.

No, its an update. There is no such thing as mandatory DLC. DLC is always an optional thing.

why is this a post? It adds nothing or takes away anything if someone wants to call it DLC or an update.

Its an update that includes new DLC.

I really don’t mind that you have to update the game, but 90 GB is completely ridiculous. 343 really needs to do a better job at file compression.

Its an update, if you can’t refuse to download the content in the update then it’s just an update. You can keep trying to say its DLC but I know you understand your wrong here as downloadable, when defined simply means you can download it or not, simple as that.

It’s not DLC, when new stuff comes out, you are prompted to update the game.

Yeah, I’ve always known it as “Content Updates”. DLC is something that is able to be downloaded but not forced. Besides, the updates also come with bug fixes, which DLC traditionally does not.

When a new update for Halo 5 comes out, you don’t say “It’s Halo 5, with the Hammer Storm DLC.”, you say “It’s Halo 5.”. The update is just part of the vanilla game at that point, and not an expansion.

90Gigs really is a complete joke. Im on a 500gig box. 100gigs of it or more was taken up by the title update, another 100 from Halo 5.

And for a game thats missing core game modes like KOTH and oddball still

I still consider the updates DLC. They’re not really just updates because those would be like changes to maps, weapons, and spartan abilities. Adding maps, new vehicles, and weapons is more than just an update. It’s a good thing they’re forced though. Because then you don’t have a divided community when it comes to playable content. This way population levels of certain playlists doesn’t suffer because 1/5 of the population doesn’t have one map pack.

But you’re still unable to get rid of the update that contains said content.

So what is it then?

So, my question is, who determined the term “Downloadable Content” also implies “optional?” Every definition I see for DLC is it’s additional content for a released game distributed through the internet. No more, no less.

To me, “Downloadable Content” is a catch all term which includes Patches, Content Updates, Expansions, individual items and anything else that’s downloaded for a game after it’s release. This whole argument is ridiculous. You’re arguing semantics. Are you all so desprete to argue that you’ll argue over something that means absolutely nothing?

The underlying problem here is the game is nearly 100GB, not what people can and can’t download or delete and what said content is called. There is so much to actually discuss and debate. This isn’t it.

Oxygen is breathable. Let me know how things turn out if you stop using it.

The suffix -able does not denote something as being optional.

The English language is fun.

In conclusion, if you bought the digital version of the game, all of your Halo 5 is DLC.

I downloaded it’s, and it’s content. Soooo…
