It’s more common than I’m comfortable with to see people advocating for the return of loot boxes.
I don’t like either system replacing the map packs of old. But let’s not advocate for gambling just because we don’t want to pay $8.00 for blue. I’d rather pay that $8.00 than hear yet another story of someone wasting next month’s rent for a chance at getting it.
Something being overpriced doesn’t make it predatory. Charging for slot machine spins is.
Given the population crisis of the game, I doubt loot boxes would make a return. Several countries are pushing to ban games with these incorporated, if they haven’t already, as they are essentially online gambling platforms.
I don’t think you have to be afraid of that. A lot of countries have severe regulations on loot boxes or outright banned them. EA for instance had to pay a fine for every week they had their loot boxes available in my country.
Many countries have either threatened with strict regulations or banned if the game developers didn’t self-regulate their loot boxes or has proposed regulations/bans in the past and that threat is still active, this includes the US itself (a law passed the House in 2019, but it wasn’t acted upon in the Senate, but the lawmakers creating that proposed law are still both Senatores and are from both parties). So many companies are afraid to create loot boxes again.
No, I can’t do that. I may be dumb, but I’m not that dumb. As long as you-know-who is around, the best you’re getting is a link where you have to find the reply/comment yourself.
All I’m saying is that I have 80% of everything unlocked in Overwatch without having to pay a dime for it, and from what I hear the same is said about Halo 5
I suspect this demand is due to how good of a middleman the system has acted as, the problem with its implementation in Halo 5 however was its influence on Warzone & the fact that it was the only way to get something, which was frustrating, it was “nothing but the middleman”
Halo Infinite has the opposite problem, there is no middleman to access the store. since there is no way to amass credits (at the moment, I am aware of season 2’s changes.)
this isn’t me advocating for one system or the other, just explaining the suspected reason for this happening.
Next time link the comment. There’s no harm in citing examples to fit your narrative and arguments.
But both monetization systems have their perks and pitfalls. I’d prefer a loot box system as it’s been the only monetization system I’ve ever passively benefited from, but I’m not outright advocating for one.
Seems fairly rational rather than petty
The villainization isn’t necessary though, even if it is the funniest thing I’ve read today.
i dunno if there is quite enough to randomize about this game to make loot boxes. They already skirt that by doing the “buy this co-marketed item and get in-game THING”. In a weird way, a BP is like a really strung-out, pre-determined loot box that lasts a whole season that we get to see how it’ll dish out its rewards long before we feel like purchasing it.
I feel like they woulda reeeeeeeeeeally needed to have done the work to have more discrete armor cores to fill out the first general trilogy of halo armor and customization, alongside a battle pass, to have made a reasonable armor/arsenal of customization to offer a sort of “gambling” offer. Also we dont have a neutral currency just a premium one to buy whats on offer.
Be interesting to see if they add a version of the MCC’s “Exchange” to infinite to allow us to use the consumables or other rewarded currency to get stuff from a catalog or something “off-season” that isnt from the store. But i guess the offering of any past BP at any time is meant to maintain a seasons rewards as a package and the further sale of them.
Seems like they’ll just spend their months rent on the store than the REQ Packs now. Neither systems really ideal, but at the very least I unlocked tons from Halo 5 without spending a dime and what I did spent on (like the classic helmet pack) gave me like, 9 helmets) for $10. That buys the color blue now.
