Stockpile is deeply flawed

I know it’s been said before, but it can’t be said enough. I know Halo Infinite has MANY crippling flaws (Trying to be COD light) and it is clear it is being headed up by what must be a completely corporate attitude with no actual love for the property they own, But give us something other than Stockpile! this game mode is a standout of what not to do in game design. Basically it becomes a lemming-like race to the seeds, except if you choose to actually carry the objective, you become the lemming. It’s super dumb. Once one team bum-rushes the seeds and scores, It is incredibly difficult to come back and it seems like the losing team just gives up on trying to come back. At a bare minimum, the seeds needs to be wiped completely clean every round. I suppose some people love to be shot in the back as they awkwardly try and jump-toss the seeds back to base in the hopes that their team will generally respawn faster than the other team. People at 343 are seriously getting paid for this?

Honestly, I’d rather just have Assault, Territories, Juggernaut, Shotty Snipers and BR start-BTB slayer

even VIP mode would be nice. it plays like a dream in splitgate.

Just give the VIP a souped up campaign weapon and overshield and call it “Juggernauts”. would be fun af

Probably the worst game mode ever invented.

I think a great fix to start would be to spread the seeds out across the map. Having them all in one location seems unbalanced seeing a player can continuously grab and throw them each towards their base. Not to mention the seeds occasionally spawn on a teams side rather than the middle, giving the other team an advantage.

This would make it much more tactical since the team would need to split into groups to cover each seed drop.

Seems like a no brainer to me.

I love stockpile. It’s 100000000x better than ctf. I’ve had so much fun nading the seed pile towards my team. Repulsing 10 power seeds at once towards my team mates, using the hammer to hammer the seeds back to base. Hopping in a razor back and loading 9 seeds into the thing with teammates. So much fun. And if you lose or your tram sucks then just play slayer and enjoy the big scale of the maps lol. It’s not like it’s ranked BTB. No big deal if you lose. At least you could have had fun slaying with a gun you like

I disagree that they should be spread out, cause that seems more boring where you just go on a scavenger hunt while likely not running into enemies. I like that it’s a big battle in a centralized area, where strategies are used to gain advantage on team positioning.

But, you make a good point that it should be more balanced.

The mode feels too 1 sided with them all spawning at one location.

I think a scavenger hunt would be better than it’s current form. It doesn’t even have to be a lot of different locations they spawn. Having 5 spawn in one area and the other 5 at a different area would be a good experiment to start.

Total control is worse

Whilst I think there’s merit to splitting the Power Seeds and having them all lumped in one location, I still think the game misses a trick with it being a tug-o’-war game mode. There’s too many power seeds per round that make theft of them virtually pointless, and are too easy to stockpile. The encouragement of defensive play is sorely lacking.

So what I would suggest is keeping the mode as is, except now the devs reduce the number of Power Seeds to, say, 6 or 7. This means that the mail trains and stockpiling can be significantly reduced, and there’s more of a push into the enemy base, or necessity to defend.

Of course, it would be great if Power Seeds didn’t spawn into a ceiling that nobody can reach in the first place.

Yes. Total control is awful. Most People are far too braindead to have any fun playing that game

If you, the player, are grabbing ONE seed from a pile, than you are doing that all wrong. Grab you a Repulsor, and push ALL Seeds toward your side of the map.

The only frustration I’ve had with the mode is when I’m on a team that doesn’t seem to know or care what the point of the mode is, and honestly that has been an issue with EVERY objective based game mode since matchmaking was introduced to online gaming.

On a competent team, ive had a ton of fun with the mode and even fought my way to comeback wins. Its far less problematic than total control (on the current maps).

You mean the stuff that should have been in the game day one… Like how bad is 343 at developing a game that’s it struggles with its own UI and can’t add in a simple Griff all mode

I love Stockpile, it’s 1000x better than control total, at least there is always something happening whereas in control total the game is always block to the same point and it’s so boring

Stockpile is a 2 sided gametype. 2 sided gametypes don’t work on maps that are not symmetrical. I think Stockpile could work well as a 1 sided gametype with rounds similar to 1 flag or 1 bomb. I feel as though all 3 BTB maps do not feel like they were designed specifically to work well with any gametype in particular. For instance, Fragmentation seems to be a balanced map until you realize that there’s almost no room for vehicles and every area is a choke point.

Seeds spawn in groups of 8. Just have two spawns of 4 seeds. That way it’s still a high contest area, but not a murder pit.

Stockpile is garbage and total control isnt far from it. I only play CTF and slayer until i get banned for quiting out of the two types listed above. Then i just go play older halo campaigns. They need to bring back Assault and KOTH.

Exactly. (Additional characters)

I loved Stockpile in Reach, where you grab flags around the map and toss the flags in a ring to score. I love Stockpile BTB in Infinite as a concept since it’s only fun when your team is actually competent and tries to win.

I enjoy double, triple, and quadruple juggling the cores. I love hammering, repulsing, and grapple flinging the cores. I score tons of points by myself, even when there’s enormous ping making cores glitch around like crazy.

That’s about where the fun stops though.

  • If teammates walk, or go the long way, instead of sprint or toss, they’re dead weight, and they will get killed or waste time, making you lose.

  • Maps are poorly designed, making it a massive hassle to stop enemies from capturing, while equally making it super easy for them to stop you from stealing.

  • You’re out in the open. Stealing takes forever. You’re forced to stand perfectly still, unable to strafe, crouch, or shoot, to defend yourself. Just like 343’s Attrition and Assault, you’re just standing there like a moron, waiting to get headshot or sniped. Destiny doesn’t have these issues. You just have to hold X within range, while still free to move and defend yourself.

If it was still as simple as chucking flags in a circle, and was available as a 4v4 mode too, it would be great. Even if they just made it easier to steal. It takes one second to slam a core in the machine, but 10 seconds to pull it out. Why? Reach wasn’t like that. Grab and go. Hell, I’d argue flags in a circle would be even better, because you could grapple steal flags from bases and book it running away with a bit of a head start.

It’s just poorly executed, and the stupid XP challenge system plays a huge role in people not trying to win.
