That campaign, man. It was just so great. The story, the score, the emotion, the levels, the bond between Chief & Cortana. I really, honestly have no idea what happened with Halo 5, but please don’t do that again.
I agree with you. It’s one of my fav Halo in terms of story. I loved the prometheans because it was still mysterious but I got it loved the didacts backstory and especially his wifes POV and in the front you had this very personal and relatable human story of a soldier who has been brainwashed and experimented on to be a machine and how the AI is the one who is evoking his human side and making him realize what he is or could be opening his eyes.
I just replayed every game on MCC and i have to say, 4 is up there with CE for me in terms to campaigns. I agree with everything you said. The music, the story, the fact that cortana was going through rampancy, how it was shown in the game, every one of the areas were super interesting and beautiful, didnt need the forcing of 3 -Yoink- AI teammates that are always dead, and hell i even enjoyed having those abilities. Theyre super fun to use. Halo4 is far superior to 5 in terms of SP. Its not even close. They really screwed up on 5. Really not memorable in any way.
The only part I really cared about was Cortana’s part of the story. So basically the first two and the last two levels.
A lot of people didn’t like the Didact’s involvement in the story until there was actually more information placed on him.

I’m the complete opposite. I LOVED when he tricks them into unleashing him, then that whole scene when ‘Revival’ is playing and Didact picks Chief up in the air.
I wanted to love that, until he just puts Chief down when he’s already Force Choking him, when he could literally solve his biggest problem through a flick of his finger.
Then we spend the game either running from him or running to him, only to shove a grenade in his chest and have him disappear for a while. (The Cortana part of this was really good though).
Right now, Halo: Escalation is gonna be the closest thing to a sequel you’re gonna get.

Well the Didact could have, but wasn’t he well known for showing his superior strength and skill? Kind of like how Ripa Moramee was? Would explain why he didn’t kill him. He also might have wanted chief to suffer the destruction of his race since he never expected a mere human to defeat a forerunner.

But that made sense, it was when the Didact first met Chief, whom he didn’t consider a threat. Only later on he saw how much trouble he caused, and this shows in the last level when he’s about to kill Chief, only for Cortana to interfere at the last second.
It’s genuinely depressing that people -Yoinked!- and complained about Halo 4’s story and how “bad” it was and how “dumb” it was. God forbid Chief becomes a three-dimensional character and Cortana shows emotion.
I bet their opinion changed after they played through Halo 5’s campaign.
Halo 4’s campaign raised the narrative and story telling to it’s highest point in the series then H5 tossed it into a bottomless abyss.
I loved the halo 4 campaign and story. I thought it was epic in more then one way. Cortana going rampant and trying to control it to help john, Her being sad about having to die. Chief’s reaction when she told him she wasn’t going with him this time… I still remember her talking about the sun. “I’ll never know if it looks real, if it feels real.”
Then along came five and took a huge dump on it. I was so looking forward to what was marketed, you know, chief dealing with the loss and absence of cortana and relying on blue team. That trailer with him rubbing his thumb across his helmet, made me choke up knowing he missed her…

This is liable to be the reason Halo 5’s campaign when on a more fast paced action oriented path over the fleshing out of each character which is sad because I remember wondering why everyone was hating Halo 4’s campaign for literally pulling heartstrings.
This is why Halo 5 is the most disappointing game I ever played. I LOVED everything about Halo 4’s campaign and I was so excited to see the next chapter.
Like ligas of earth said: Halo 4 brought Halo to the thighest point in terms of storytelling. Halo 5 pushed it back into a bottomless abyss.
I found the campaign confusing at first. I didn’t like how we had to find out what was going on by watching the stories on the Halo channel. It also felt like it was the push a button campaign and the QTE fight with the Didact was terrible.

Just replace the numbers and I have literally heard someone say that exact sentence since 2004. For 13 years I have heard every Halo player say the previous Halo is king and as such beyond reproach, and bash the current game out. Only to turn around and do the same thing on the next release. Lol so damn hypocritical.
Halo 4 has a very good story but bad multiplayer. Halo 5 had a bad story and great multiplayer. If 343 can mash the two together, we could have a great halo game.
Don’t worry dude we already got our sequel
A mediocre game where the ads lied to us for 60$ dollars and even more if you’re dumb enough to buy the microtransactions.

This is precisely why, in my opinion, the fans should have no say whatsoever in the direction of the story. The idiots clamoring how Halo 4’s story is just mediocre because of the characterization really know next to nothing about good writing.
It’s even more depressing how so many people complained that the Didact was a bad villain just because they didn’t feel like putting any thought into understanding him. But now that I think about it, maybe this is why a chunk of the fans disliked Halo 4: it’s the only campaign in the series that requires you to think to appreciate it.
On the bright side, we got Exuberant Witness from Halo 5, I think that was the best part of the campaign, she is really funny and quirky
