Still no sign of patch notes

man they sure are waiting till the last minute to post them, pretty sure none of the things i’m hoping are fixed will be fixed tomorrow.

what about you guys?

looking like the winter update is focused on mp, online co-op and forge.

no mention of lan co-op or anything else.

i wanna believe the update will do more than they say but i have my doubts…

would love to be wrong tomorrow though.

that’s not patch notes.

that’s just a blog post talking about mp changes for the winter update and stuff to come later.

i’m talking about a full list of fixes that most devs put out when a patch / update is due.

Oh. Well that’s probably coming out tomorrow.

What other games do you actually know that release patch notes pre-emptively?

many do it a day or two before or on day of update. so you know what to expect.

^ that was the point of the blog posts. lol

You might be reaching with this post, especially with how many updates they gave us last week. Just wait 1 more day and you’ll have them plus the game content.

To be fair to OP, there was a long period during the 360 and XBO era where patch notes getting released was a pretty big event for a game. Lots of games you would only really know the patch date and one or two vague line items before the patch notes came out. 343 leans into detailed blog posts leading into updates, so patch notes are a little less consequential for Infinite though.

It will be interesting to get a manifest of some of the very minor changes that might not have made the blogs. I don’t expect it before tomorrow though tbh.

343 doesn’t put out patch notes until the update is live.

And they often leave a lot of stuff out of the patch notes that they are trying to sneak into the game without people noticing.

This is still fairly big in quite a few multiplayer games, so I don’t completely understand the flak they got.

Multiplayer shooters (both first and third person), Fighting games, MOBA’s, MMO’s, digital card games, etc tend to get detailed patch notes anywhere from the day of release to a week+ before release (Destiny 2’s an example of this). Heck even tabletop games do.

In a competitive setting or competitive focused game, patch notes are definitely nice to have.

343i did have multiple blog posts that covered (possibly) everything though.

You can probably read them, when the update is downloading.

PUBG. They even release a video like a week before the update going over everything.

This is how you do a live service game.

One of my least favourite parts of my job is writing patch notes, and there isn’t nearly as many people reading them.

Sometimes you can’t publish them because there’s still a fix or two that might get pulled at the last minute.

Mmh, PUBG does that? First I’ve heard of it, but I’m impressed to find an answer. Thank you.

They’ve always done this. They are very open and actually listen to community feedback.
