No need for a ranking system vs no raking system debate here, plenty of places to do that elsewhere. However, I found a tweet from Jessica Shea that says there won’t be anything about a ranking system coming this week.
So I suppose that means it could come next week, but I have to think that there won’t be any ranking system on day one, which is a major disappointment. I think something as major as a rank system, which has many people questioning whether they want to buy the game, would be an announcement they would make if they could make it. They want to put all of the cards on the table to get as many interested people to pre-order and buy on release as possible.
Yet, inside of two weeks and we won’t get any news about it. This topic is one of the hottest topics on the forums, and easily the most controversial. Their silence on the issue answers no questions, and to me still doesn’t prove there will be a system. It is a great marketing tactic to say nothing at all about a missing feature many want instead of outright saying it won’t be there.
Also, before it’s pointed out to me, I have seen the ‘proof’ where Frankie says they are working on it, and I have seen the videos about the competitive playlists. What I am saying though, is without an official word from 343i, it is hard to believe a rank system is coming any time soon.

The community had every right to complain about the LE.

What a well constructed counter argument. Of course they had the right to. This is a forum for the exchange of ideas and beliefs, not some gulag! They believed they were being mistreated with the devaluing of their LEs (I had agreed with them) and were correct in posting about it.
OT: I hope we get a mention of the ranks soon, but it is not a deal breaker for me. As long as it is not reminiscent of Reach’s though…shudder

I fear you may not like this post, but if there is no ranking system, those asking for it will just have to deal. It’s a tough pill to swallow, I know, but the decision is just not up to them. And contrary to popular belief, the number of players coming to Matchmaking looking for a heightened competitive experience are in the minority. They are arguably the most vocal, but they are in the minority. While developers certainly keep them largely in mind as far as game flow, balance, and setting are concerned, you simply can’t cater to a small audience at the expense of the majority.

Just use Reach as an example. It didn’t take very long for Reach to lose way over half it’s population. I don’t understand why they can’t add another 1-50 and have social playlists to cater to the kids that don’t enjoy ranked. I know I’m not just speaking for myself here.

that is a definite possibility but the longer it takes for 343 to announce such things, the more likely that skill-based ranking system`s nonexistence becomes.
