Still don't understand Warzone

I’ve tried playing Warzone. I’ve watched countless streams, videos, etc. I’ve gone through and picked weapons, played through the game, walked towards waypoints, and shot enemies and other players.

But I still don’t get what the bloody hell I’m supposed to be doing.

For example, I played a game recently on the Raid Apex, and I didn’t understand why the core was blocked. I’m assuming it was because we didn’t have enough bases, but in every game I’ve played (including STRONGHOLDS), capturing two of three bases yields positive results. No luck here.

Then I got a notification that my tier 5 was unlocked. I got a saw. Then when I respawned, I couldn’t pick it again. The thing in the upper left side still said Tier 5.

I’ve tried going after AI, mostly because after a full game I look at the scoreline and see “Kills: 25, AI Kills: 0, Points: 400” and I’m in last place to some guy that killed 1 actual human player and 1 boss. But I’ll be honest, by the time I figure out my bearings on these unnecessarily-large maps, and locate an AI enemy or future drop location, the boss has already been killed or I’ve been shot by a human enemy.

I’m partly typing this out to figure out what the purpose of Warzone is, but also to vent some frustrations in the way it’s played and the annoyances that come with that. Picking weapons is obnoxious (I died 5 times in a row to a single shot from a sniper I couldn’t see), picking vehicles is even worse (I turned a corner in my scorpion and found a teammate in a wraith, as well as enemies in scorpions and wraiths). The maps are way too large to be functional, and it feels like a cheap Destiny knock-off where you wander around for hours before seeing some AI Drop come out of nowhere, and by then others have found you and shot you down.

Invasion was a much more balanced gametype, and Dominion was a much more fun way of -Yoink!- power weapons. Warzone seems like something they slapped together in an effort to promote their microtransactions, while their efforts could have been put to better use cleaning up Theater bugs, adding proper gametypes and maps, and making the game a little more enjoyable for everyone.

Warzone is an attack and defend gametype. I suggest trying Warzone Assault.

Warzone standard, Is capturing and holding bases and after capturing all 3 bases the losing team is pushed back to their home base, to which the core will be exposed and the winner team has to destroy it to win. Alternately you can win by reaching 1000 points. You gain points by basically holding bases and killing A.I Bosses that spawn, and after awhile Warden Eternal will spawn someone near a center point for an equal chance of the teams to kill him.

So to sum it down what Warzone is, Attack and defend.

I’m sure someone can explain better but this is a quick summary.

  1. To take out the enemy core you must control all bases and having a base gives you points every couple of seconds for your team so if you have all three you gain three every couple seconds.

  2. Once you have equipped the SAW there are green icons underneath your level bar at the bottom of the screen, those indicate the points you can spend on REQs so if you have 5 and grab a SAW you will have to wait till your points recharge to be able to spawn more REQs.

  3. With the bosses right now they always spawn in the same place at the exact same time. Example: The Zealot Assassin spawns on both sides of Raid on Apex 7 at the 2 minute mark in the game. You gain more points from bosses since normal bosses give you 25 points to your team which is equivalent to killing 25 human players.

Once you play more you’ll start to get the hang of it

There are five base.

  • 2 home bases - One for each team. - 2 armories - Smaller bases between the home bases and the garage. - 1 garage - Big base in the center of the map that can spawn vehicles
There are two ways to win.

  • Kill enemies, both Spartans and AI to earn points. First team to 1,000 points wins. - Capture both armories and the garage to expose the enemy core and destroy it.Pretty straight forward.

I will break it down for you:

Reqs:
Are your weapons/vehicles/powerups/etc…, the little number on the Req cards corresponds with your level (at the bottom of your screen) you cant use it until you get to that level.

Objective:
Kill the bosses for points,
Kill players in the area around a boss,
capture bases,
and if you cap all three you can destroy the enemy core which is an automatic win

Control the map, this is important.
Use your reqs, they help.
Get to 1000 points, the first team to do so wins.

They don’t like swearing so I will say I am with you on this. Warzone is what cones out your bum. You need a team with mics on to win

I love it, though it took a while for me to get into it. There is a certain flow to the matches, especially at the beginning, so try to stick with your teammates at first before wandering off later on. Also, I think if you have 2 of 3 bases captured then your points gradually go up.

I think you just don’t know how to play the game literally tells you what to do every round it sounds like this is your first time playing warzone

I dont understand Warzone Assault…it really doesn’t make sense to me and I have no idea about where I’m supposed to be and what I’m supposed to be doing. Could someone break down Warzone Assault too please.

Also it seems in Warzone Assault you are either attackers or defenders…but you don’t get to switch around. Where is the balance in that?!

Bosses > Bases for the most part.

watching streams and videos and you don’t understand?

I never watched any videos or streams and find it very simple and repetitive.

Ask some of your friends on xbox live to team up and show you the ropes? Maybe you’ll start seeing results and win.

Good luck

I’m sure a simple google search would help you.

Imagine warzone assault as king of the hill.

One team always attacks and the other defends for the entire game.
If you spawn blue, you’re offense. Kill the red Spartans and control the base until you have “conquered” it
One base unlocks at a time
Garage/Spire then an armory then core.

Defense is where you kill the blue team defend the first base you spawn at for 6 minutes. If all your team is killed off then they start conquering the base.

Never let the enemies conquer 2 bases because then you have to defend the core. If they kill your core GAME OVER

Just capture the middle base and kill the warden.

This is the greatest discription of the game mode I have ever read

So you can’t figure out basic things, and you try and make this a bash 343 praise Bungie thread? And if invasion had people finding groups like we do today, it would be just as much a domination for one team as warzone can be. And to say you can’t figure out warzone? Maybe try pong, it’s just two lines and a circle.

Fair description but backwards, Warzone Assault is the attack and defend game-type. Regular Warzone is the AI-based game-type.

Man I feel your pain on the power wepons. It sucks to spawn with a high req value wepon just to get killed instantly.

How was Invasion a much more balanced gametype? It was like Spartans in an elevated position on Boneyard with DMR’s & Pistols shooting down on Elites who had Needle Rifles & Needlers. It wasn’t fun at all. Come to think of it, it’s what ruined BTB in Reach as well because they ended up taking half the maps from Invasion & putting them into BTB where they didn’t play well. Two wrongs don’t make a right. The Spire map was awful when used on BTB & heck, you didn’t even use half the map on Boneyard in BTB.

I do agree that developers could do a lot better job explaining how game modes work to beginners. In this day & age, why would it be so hard for them to include a small movie file link at the bottom of the Warzone playlist where it would either link you to YouTube, Halo Channel, or simply open it in the game & call it, “Warzone Help.” Then when you clicked the link it would open a video that would be 2-3 minutes long & show you with arrows everything on your H.U.D. pointing out what each thing meant, how to use a REQ Station & point out how to play the mode in general.

Even though I’m sure your questions been answered just in case it hasn’t i’ll leave everything I learned in warzone
Bases

  • 5 bases - Your home base (Cannot be captured) - Enemy home base (Cannot be captured) - East armory (Can be captured) - West armory (Can be captured) - Big center base (Can be captured) (Spire, Fortress, Garage)Breaking this down from the start, you will spawn in your homebase, this is the one and only time it needs to be “captured” however unlike other bases it is your base the moment all enemies are killed. Your team will then move to west or east armory marked with a grey shield looking icon on your hud, close to the same as home base you will have to clear out AIs before you can capture it once they are dead you’ll see the grey mark flash and have a white outline it will decrease as long as no enemy is in the base with you. The big center base can be used for a good terrain advantage, allowing you to spawn vehicles without having to drive them from home base, and usually giving you a faster route to bosses. Keep an eye on your bases using the hub if they are flashing or if they have the white outline someone is trying to take your base. If you have control of all 3 bases, east, west armory and the center base, you may go and attack the enemies core, kill the core win the game without having to race for points. At the bottom right of your hud you can see the shield icons next to the team scores to tell you how many bases each of the teams have.
TL;DR-bases are grey shields at first then the team color that capped it, control bases to make the game easier, get all bases to kill the core and win faster.
    Bosses

  • Gold bosses 150 points - Grey bosses 25 if 2, 50 points if 1Not much to say here but usually 3 gold bosses, and about 4-5 grey bosses per game. Winning the game normally depends on who kills the bosses, last shot to kill the boss will give that team the points. Warden eternal is always the last gold boss and always spawns in a spot thats even on both sides but the center base will get you to him faster. Bosses are marked with a grey or gold skull symbol, flashing symbols are bosses spawning in. About 2 times in the game grey bosses will spawn by each armory usually resulting in each team getting the same points, unless of course if you got both armories or you can speed across the map and steal the other teams kills.
    REQ cards and levels

  • Green hexagons show “energy” - Use energy to buy weapons, vehicles, power ups, and armor mod, - Max energy increases with the more you do (killing base, captures, boss kills, any medals tbh) - Power weapons, Power ups, and vehicles drain energy - Load out weapons (assault rifle, smg, br, dmr, pistol) do not drain energy - Load out weapons regain ammo at req stations (the green terminals) - Modded Load out weapons cost more but are the same as stated above - Armor mods same as Loadout weaponsBasically, if the hexagon is empty the energy is spent, and it recharges over time. Load out weapons require that level of energy but do not require it to be usable, in otherwords if you have 4 points of total energy and a battle rifle costs 3 but you just spent those 4 points of energy on a fuelrod cannon, you can still get the battle rifle right at that point. More medals more energy, and it takes more medals to get to the next level each time, basically like rpg leveling with exp.

What to do in general

  • Fight with team to capture and hold bases - Get bosses (they can be game changing) - Keep an eye on your hud - Listen to Palmer for updates (the announcer girl)
