Okay, so I think I have a legitimate beef with the ranking system in Halo 5…and, I’m sure we all have things we wish were different about it. My main annoyance is dropping rank. I’ve read multiple (I mean, a bunch) of articles/overviews of the ranking system, including the one here on waypoint, and each of them say that you’ll never drop a whole tier (i.e from Gold back to Silver). I’m sure you know, but this is not true. I’ve dropped from Platinum to Gold 6 many, many times.
I could go on about getting bad teams while my friends are offline (I’m always carrying the teams), or multiple players dropping out of a game (which, if a player leaves a team, I don’t think the other players should lose a rank if it’s a loss), but my main complaint is the inconsistency I’ve seen. Why does it say everywhere that you won’t drop a tier, when in fact, you do?

I’m not Lord AU, but I do remember seeing that, on one of the “Messages of the Day” pop-ups in Halo 5 from a few months ago, they said that the system changed so you can drop tiers.
I believe it was a message of the day when the Fall season began. I think this is a good thing, it’s already a little too easy to rank up, wins count for more than losses so as long as your W/L is literally at 50% you will rank up (albeit slowly). Not to mention that if someone got carried into a tier beyond their skill level it would be terrible for them to not be able to rank down.

This, I got carried into onyx when the game dropped. I was probably a high gold player. It made swat somewhat miserable that first season.
It’s bs for us players who just get stuck with laggy opponents or teammates who are not any good. I think it should go back to once you pass a checkpoint you do not fall back below.
I’m fine with being able to drop between tiers because seeing someone go from a Diamond 1 to Plat 6 after beating their team feels good. But what I would really like to see changed about the Ranking system is how well (or not) you do in a game affecting how much XP you get towards your next tier. So more than just winning or losing is factored in to how much XP you gain or lose.
What they really need to do is do something about these SMURF ACCOUNTS! I can’t rank up because if the other team has a diamond or gold smurf with them, I will receive barely any csr for winning. BUT ALSO!!! If I lost a game against a single smurf being on the enemy team, I end up losing a lot of csr! With every high onyx team running a champ smurf or semi pro on their team, how is someone like me supposed to even rank up??? I know I can’t be the only high onyx solo queuing dealing with this crap! I feel even more bad for you gold and diamond players having to deal with them as well because then it just becomes a really unfair/nasty game for you! I’ve had my fair share of getting decimated in my platinum/diamond days…343 FIX THE SMURFS!!!
Thanks for the responses guys. That’s helpful to know, and I appreciate the feedback. I agree with a lot of what’s being said here
I definitely agree that how well you do should also affect how much XP you drop, and I still hold that if a player (or especially two) drop off your team, you shouldn’t be charged a loss. I’m not the best player in the world by a long shot, which means I can’t carry a 2 on 4 game all the time lol
I, as well as many of the members of the Halo community, would just like to see a Halo 3 ranking system implemented again. People loved it and would play hours to get a 50, or try to for some. Each playlist having it’s own social exp rank, as well as an overall exp rank based on your true skill rank. That’s all I want, and I feel Halo 5 would be a lot more popular with that ranking system.

Queue the return of the boost account that can level a player to 50 in 25 games.
well, i could prefer if the tier could stay but it doesnt really matter that much. Though i agree that if a player(s) quits or gets disconnected in 4v4 making it 4vX, since it encourages quitting to the other players too and soon you realise that you are f*cked in 4v1 match and you still get your rank dropped even if you stay in that situation the only thing that is accomplished is a waste of everyones time. And the second thing is that when you lose connection once in a while, the rank gets down quite a lot. And that just gives people with worse connection same kind of punishment as quitters get snd i think there is something wrong in that. And finally, the rank doesnt seem to matter that much if you arent in active spartan company since the rank gets up by winning and if you play with randoms instead or against a dedicated team, you will likely have worse rank than other people with your skill-level.

Yes, but in reality, there are going to be people manipulating the system regardless of what the rank is. You just don’t see it as much because people aren’t a huge fan of the ranking, and it resets every month haha. I feel that people figuring out how to get a high rank quicker by manipulating the system isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it just shows how much a rank matters to people and that they enjoy a game that much they’re going to do it. I had a booster account, not going to lie, and I never gave a teammate a loss because I went in with a full team regardless of doubles or slayer. We would give the opponents a free win resulting in our loss. The Halo 3 ranking system was so much fun haha.
So apparently everybody hates it when your team mates leave mid game but why can’t your team mates be replaced with other Spartans that are waiting to join a match? They do it in social playlists like Grifball but not ranked ones. Quitting mid game is a big problem and this was a simple solution.
