After seeing almost all of the gameplay videos, I’ve only seen one person get a kill with the Sticky Detonator. I feel like it’s a bad replacement for the Grenade Launcher. I can’t really say for sure since I haven’t played the game yet, but it seems like its not a very good weapon. I mean, if you were good with the Grenade Launcher, you could set up a mine for someone to step on to detonate. But one thing I’m not sure of is if you shoot the Detonator, and not hold the right trigger, does it explode on impact, similar to a rocket?
The Grenade Launcher wasn’t exactly a “pickup and use” weapon. It took time to learn how it worked. Even if you know how it works, you can still mess up in the heat of battle.
A reason why nobody was doing a good job with the Stickey Detonator is because it might also be a weapon that’s not a simple “pickup and use” tool. It might take some time to use effectively and we won’t know until players start investing time into it to learn how to use it.
Uh…I’m just going to call it a grenade launcher, but in the back of my head I’ll know it’s more of a “Bomb Launcher”. At first I was all like, oh cool an attachment exclusively for the pistol! People will be thrilled! But that’s not the case. It’s a little silly to look at (maybe because it’s handheld?)
From what I’ve heard, fire it once, it sticks a bomb somewhere. Pull the trigger again, it detonates.
Edit: I had my share of GL kills, but I miss alot. Its EMP blast was great, but that was pretty much it.
Can’t wait to play with the SD, or the “STICKER”!

Well, first time I picked up the grenade launcher I was terrible with it. The sticky detonator is probably the same way. It takes some time to get used to, that’s is why it looks bad in gameplay vids by MLG and such.
Let me start off saying that the Grenade Launcher isn’t a weapon you can pick up and immediately be pro with, you have to devote time and effort to become good. That’s why I LOVE the GL; with practice, I’ve managed to master its technique and completely dominate with it. It’s so underrated. I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY (do I need more REALLY’s?) hope it returns.
I want both in the game. Is that too much to ask for? I’m sure I’ll love the Sticky Detonator as well. But I have a deep compassion with the GL, I want it back :{
EDIT: OP, why didn’t you provide an option for both?
I hope it returns. I didn’t use it much to be a master and I’d like to get the chance to master it in Halo 4. If not, I will use the SD and master it, since it seems like it requires skill as well.
I prefer the grenade launcher, I’ve only gotten to know and use it in 2011. I didn’t realise its power at first.
It’s no surprise that the only weapon in Halo with a massive skill gap isn’t coming back…
> I prefer the grenade launcher, I’ve only gotten to know and use it in 2011. I didn’t realise its power at first.
^Exactly what I mean.
People underestimate the capable havoc the Grenade Launcher withholds.
The Halo sandbox definitely has room for both because they both have different applications.
The Grenade Launcher requires great skill with perfect angling and timing in order to kill, which is why it’s such an appealing weapon. It’s ability to bank shots off surfaces and manually explode rounds mid-air is very unique and welcomed in Halo.
The Sticky Detonator is not a suitable replacement for the GL because it does not fill the same niche. Rather, it better serves as a booby trap weapon than a direct confrontation weapon. It does not have the unique banking or mid-air manual detonation abilities that the GL has, which were it’s trademark killing aspects. It will be mainly used for trapping power weapons, vehicles or certain sections of the map, much like a mine. That was not the main use of the GL.
That is why both weapons could easily fit well in the Halo sandbox. Frankie’s comment that that the GL seemed too redundant with the SD is totally untrue. The argument could be made that 4 precision weapons seem redundant, but I digress. Anyway, I hope that both are included.

In all the videos I’ve seen, the people trying to use it must be just plain stupid.
They are trying to shoot it and get it stuck to people miles away or detonate it in midair. The Sticky Detonator may be a replacement to the Grenade Launcher, but it’s not a direct replacement.
It’s a different animal entirely and focuses exclusively on the trap aspect of the GL.
Stick it to a wall/ceiling and bait a target into walking into it. Stick it to an item of importance and when you see them take it, make them regret it.
I thought that I read somewhere that it’s confirmed that the GL is not coming back. I don’t have a source or anything, I just remember seeing it. I really wish that would come back. The EMP made it one of the best weapons. The sticky launcher might be an amazing weapon, but nothing will replace my Pro Pipe<3
Hard to tell, because they are not largely similar. I honestly love both a lot, but I don’t understand why the grenade launcher couldn’t be in Halo 4 if it has different properties (EMP, Ricocheting, Arcing) than the sticky detonator. Can’t really decide.

Well it’s understandable. Some people think the only important aspect of a FPS is shooting someone, not out-thinking them. So they’ll just be using it like a Rocket Launcher.

I was able to deduce how to use it effectively after seeing it demonstrated to me in that montage of clips across all the game modes that 343 put up during E3.
Specifically the scene where the guy has the explosive on the ground, the screen on the weapon is open, shows a dot moving towards the circle in the middle and when it reaches it, an enemy rounds the corner and the Detonator explodes.
After seeing that short little clip roughly two seconds long, I was able to deduce how to use it. Yet MLG pros actually using the weapon can’t. WTH.

But it will slow down gameplay. How long do you want to wait for someone to walk over the Detonator?

2 seconds when they’re pursuing me.

Not really. Personally, I’ll probably be using it a lot to stick my teammates and wait for them to die near an enemy so I can blow it up in their face. Kamikazee.

The trap aspect would be fine if the damn thing didn’t make a dumb tell-tale beeping noise.
> The trap aspect would be fine if the damn thing didn’t make a dumb tell-tale beeping noise.
If you stick it on an item of importance, you still win.
You either kill them, or force them to avoid the object you stuck it too.
