Reaches Grenade launcher that had an awesome EMP feature and two firing modes.
And Halo 4s Sticky detonator, which is great for traps and we’ve all tried pulling off a successful kamikaze run with it.
Having both would be great but if you had to prioritize with having just the one which one?
Personally I’d prefer the Grenade launcher.
One of my issues with the Sticky detonator is that it isn’t scary looking enough, a problem I also have with the Needler. I feel like a power weapon should look heavy and dangerous. The only power weapon I think that should be small enough to be stored on the thigh is the Energy word and any other power weapon that will become more fearsome once drawn, the Needler and Sticky detonator while powerful look to small and puny. Though if they had the Sticky detonator re skinned to be bigger and meaner but still had the same function I’d be fine with that.
As for the actual Grenade launcher I prefer it so much more because of that EMP. Plus it’s sufficiently big and actually looks like a power weapon. I also want to see more of that Grenade launcher turret from that co-op Falcon on New Alexandria.
Since it’s a power weapon I’d like to see it take over as the primary EMP weapon in Halo 5 while the Plasma pistol can return to it’s former Halo CE glory. This would make me so happy.
What do you guys think? Sticky or EMP? Or some kind of hybrid?
I’d have to say the grenade launcher from reach for sure. It truly was a pro weapon. There is nothing more satisfying than pulling off a one hit kill with it in a clutch moment. The sticky det just feels cheap when you kill with it.
The Sticky Detonator is pretty terrible with it’s exaggerated blast radius and damage, and in Campaign, there was rarely a time where you needed to be creative with it.
When I read the achievement description for the level Composer, I was under the impression we’d fight Hunters in a maze-like environment and we’d have to use the Sticky Detonator creatively…
What really happened was you’d just camp in a room, step out and shoot, rinse and repeat until you ran out of ammo, after which you’d rush the ammo crates near one of the Hunters. It was pretty much a given anyway. It was a waste of an achievement slot.
The Grenade Launcher on the other hand had tons of creative usage in both game modes, not to mention unique features (e.g. it had a counter on the left of the weapon).
This is easily one of the hardest Halo related questions I’ve ever answered in my life!
I love the Sticky Detonator. I love the satisfying popping sound that it makes when you launch the grenade. I love shooting it into the cabin of a Scorpion and driving in it to see how long until it explodes. I love it when my opponent aims the Sticky Detonator at me and is then blown into smithereens when I shoot the grenade in the same split second that it is launched. That gun is easily one of the funnest guns in Halo.
But I also love the Grenade Launcher. I love how the grenades bounce around the walls. I love the feel of accomplishment that comes after I pick a Falcon from the sky with the hold-and-release function. I love how my victims flop backwards after they take a sizzling projectile to the face. That gun mixes skill with infinite possibilities.
Without a doubt, I’d like to choose both. While you would consider this “redundancy”, why remove one of two great features when you could have both? The Grenade Launcher and the Sticky Detonator both function quite differently, and I do recall the Halo 2 Brute Shot being quite different from the Concussion Rifle.
Perhaps we could have both the Grenade Launcher and the Sticky Detonator, and we could have the Concussion Rifle being the Sticky’s counterpart and the Halo 2 Brute Shot being the Grenade Launcher’s counterpart.
I accidentally picked the third option. But I vote grenade launcher. The sticky detonator, it’s alright, but I feel the grenade launcher can be used for more roles.
I like both of them but if I had to choose only one, I’d choose the Grenade Launcher. It was one of the most creative and unique weapons we’ve seen in Halo’s sandbox.
It would be kind of cool to have both though, I’ve grown quite accustomed to the Sticky Detonator.
I like them both but I wish that the sticky det had less restrictions on it, for example you cant shoot it across the map, cant stick stuff and then pick it up, and many others.
I can understand why there’s not a “Both” option, but my favorite grenade launcher-esque weapon of any Halo game would have to be the H3-era Brute Shot. It was powerful, it was devastating, and it was controlled mayhem. The Concussion Rifle may have been designed to be the Elite-friendly Brute Shot, but it doesn’t do it justice when it comes down to the way they compare (different projectile travel times, different effects on vehicles, etc.) The Brute Shot, being a bladed ballistic behemoth of a grenade launcher, was much more intimidating than the soft curves and bright colors of the Concussion Rifle. I’d give up the Concussion Rifle and one of the UNSC grenade launchers to have that beauty back.
Personal preferences aside, I felt like the Reach-era Grenade Launcher was more versatile in its applications (ricocheting around corners, holding the trigger until someone walked over its projectile, and the EMP). True, the Sticky Detonator could stick to walls and be used as a manually-activated Trip Mine or as a form of deployable Motion Tracker, but these uses are less varied.
I suppose I’d have to go with Brute Shot (in place of Concussion Rifle, although this would doubtfully happen as Brutes may not appear) and the Grenade Launcher.
The Pro Pipe had the best mechanics but damn was it ugly. I guess 343i can fix that, though- so Pro Pipe it is. Sorry Sticky Det, you were just not as good
It’s Sticky Detonator, Railgun, and Scattershot Vs Grenade Launcher.
The Grenade Launcher served four purposes in Reach:
-Skill based weapon
-Trap weapon
-Indirect fire/suppression weapon
-EMP
Those functions in H4 have been filled by, in order:
-Railgun
-Sticky Detonator
-Scattershot
-EMP function has been discarded since there’s no need for a UNSC based EMP weapon to rival the PP for Invasion
The Sticky Detonator is a better trap weapon than the Grenade Launcher ever was. The Railgun is arguably a better skill based weapon than the Grenade Launcher, at the very least it’s on par, and it’s currently better than the Scattershot at indirect fire/suppression.
Rather than bring the Grenade Launcher back back, just up the Scattershot’s ability as an indirect fire/suppression weapon.
Sticky detonator was grenade launchers pathetic sibling.
Grenade launcher took skill to use, and the UNSC lacked an EMP function, which played so nicely with Reach’s more robust vehicle mix.
It’s only a shame H4 brought out so many other 1SK weapons to replace/drown the GL out. If they had got vehicles right in H4, the GL would have been a no brainer.
Here’s my opinions of the two:
Sticky detonator: slower, lacks range, blinks and beeps for the noobs, limited duration.
Grenade launcher: slightly faster, longer range, trick shots, not noob friendly, EMP. And you’re committed to the kill for as long as you can hold that trigger down.
Grenade launcher. A truly satisfying UNSC heavy weapon. Bring it back! Bring it back!
