Sticky Detonator: facts needed

In my quest for weapon mastery, I need to know more about the weapons. Today’s focus is the sticky detonator. How does it work exactly, what are the best tactics with it, and what’s its range?

I ask, because people kill me from several meters away with it, yet I detonate bombs under peoples feet without satisfactory results. It’s like everyone is a Chuck Norris clone but me. They take bombs up the a** and their shields don’t even break. What could it mean?

Try and get it on walls instead. Its also best to use more of a trap. See a red dot headed towards you plant it quick watch the screen on the weapon and blow it when someone gets close. It can be used in CQC but if u lanch it far your screwed or if theres a nade thrown at you it will blow up the sitcky round. 4v4 is best for this weapon

Well, one thing you should know is that it has its own personal motion tracker which gives you a view of player movement around your grenade. When an enemy is very close to the center icon, you should detonate it. This is for a fully shielded player. Damaged players can be killed from much farther out, but with full shields it pretty much has to be about a foot away from them.

Also, stick your teammates and kill enemies that get close to them.

Its max range isn’t very far. It should blow up in mid air after a good distance. It will also explode when you die. Refrain from sticking vehicles with it, it won’t do any real damage.

The sticky launcher does everything I want it to, and more. The grenade launcher is unnecessary, why? You’re Spartan’s arm does the exact same with a frag.

Unfortunately, there isn’t one straight answer, but if it’s something that happens to you fairly often, the only thing I can think of would be the connection between you and the host. It might not register damage to your enemy until they are no longer right on top of it, even though you pulled the trigger when you saw they were standing on it. I mean, I don’t think “Explosives” helps THAT much. Also, are you using the the little radar on the detonator in your hand? (EDIT- Someone already explained this thoroughly.)

I wish it had an EMP on the grenade… Reach’s pro-pipe was more fun to use and served a more interesting role in the game’s sandbox considering it could bounce around corners and could disable vehicles. Meh.

Thank you for the very constructive comments! Although I was sure stickies would stay if you stuck an opponent before dying… My friend actually managed that and got a double kill later from it. Enemy time bomb walked back to his team then BLAM.

Does the explosives perk really power it up? I thought that perk was a 2 in 1, but this would certainly make it overpowered. Deal more and take less, it’s a win-win. Especially if you use frags. I can’t play without dexterity though lol. I’m also much better with plasma grenades. And yet, recently I’ve seen a LOT go through people’s chests… how sad.

So it would appear! 2m extra range on a sticky detonator is rediculous. Alright, it seems there are more balance issues with this game then even I thought. I’ve never been too good with frags, but now might be the time to change that. Hrm… Perhaps I should use different loadouts for slayer and BTB…

Actually, you’re right. The grenades do stay if they stick and then you die, but they explode in mid air if you die before they stick.

Also, just tested out Explosives on the sticky det. It does nothing.

My key to success with it is using it at choke points, it is an area effect weapon, so best to use on tight hall ways like on Adrift or haven when the whole opposing team tries to rush you. A great place to set it up as a trap is the center building on Complex, everyone tries to rush into that room, and the alarm in it masks the sound of the sticky. I would not recommend trying to use it in an 1 on 1 battle if possible, best to use it vs multi players in the safety of cover. That is how I mastered the sticky grenade.

In my experiences, try and place it where you think the other player will be, if you’re using in an offensive manner, that is. It’s probably better if you use it in defensive situations, as it’s easier to catch someone rushing at you.
