People sometimes argue that the reason halo can never go back to its classic roots is solely due to the fact it’d be a step backwards. However, I find that while sometimes change IS good, it wouldn’t hurt if 343i took some things away just to add the fun and feeling of reward back to this game. Lets go over a few things…
-
Customizable Loadouts, yes a good addition but are they really needed? Halo 3 and even halo reach (with its none customizable) loadouts were more fun, imo, than halo 4. I can tell people like individualism of playstyle, but wouldnt it be more fun to run past some battling tanks, jump a few death holes, and duke it out for that dmr that you want than just being handed one? It would definitely make me feel more accomplished.

MOAR COVERZZ!! People argue that for the sake of precision weaponry it would be a good idea to integrate more cover in btb maps. But wouldn’t it be just as good to flank the guy with the precision weapon and blindside him than just hopping a few rocks? Also, removing those rocks would make vehicle players a lot less cautious when turning the next corner.
-
Ordinance Drops, yet another thing that swaps reward for obtaining something easier. Didn’t it feel good when you got a rocket launcher by running through enemy lines and not just having it called down right in front of you?
-
CQB map design. A real buzzkill for btb enthusiasts like myself. When halo 4 first came out these maps where gorgeous. But none of them offered the freedom and balance like i felt on Avalanche, Sandtrap, etc.
To me, these things labeled as “steps forward” in the game’s development have overall demolished both the fun and rewarding feeling it takes to win a game.
But now, it’s time to look at where these “steps forward” have actually improved the game.

Armor abilities have dramatically changed how the game is played. Sometimes for the better and other times for the worst. You can argue how gamebreaking they are but when a hog is a few feet close to mowing me down you can be sure i’m going to want a thruster pack to get the heck out of the way.
-
Sprint. Say what you want about sprint but i seem to enjoy myself now that i can get from one place to the other without getting mortally pelted with BR bullets (so many agonizing rages playing sandtrap).
-
How about Waypoint? I’ve always liked having the edge as far as secret armors go. I remember being one of the first on my friends list to get raider and telling my friends how to get it. I’ve also enjoyed the little videos and animations that 343i made for us.

The AR is finally useful!! I cannot count how many times ive raged over that thing being as powerful as a nerf gun.
Believe me when i say that yes, there are some things im happy 343i did, but im also sick and tired of halo becoming “call of halo: modern futurefare” (yeah i said it, what of it?). Everybody, if halo is to survive the future decade we need to learn when it is alright to go back in time a little and when it is time for change.
