SteamDeck support to come with Steam Workshop?

This, to me, seems like a no brainer. SD is quicky becoming a success and Infinite just got support with the most recent iteration of Proton. MCC has worked on Proton for months but is only being stopped because 343i refuse to support it.

As someone who just recently received their SD reservation, I was hoping that this issue would have been figured out months ago. MCC is quite literally my #1 most anticipated SD game. Between playing on the go and mod support, this is a no brainer for me as someone who has never really delved into PC gaming, but 343i are stopping that for some reason.

Its bizarre that this still hasnt been done after many repetitive months of it coming up here. Not even mentioned in the blog posts every few months.

What’s even more bizarre is that 343 included the one file needed to make EAC work on Proton in the game files, they just haven’t activated it on their end yet (which is why it was stuck in a continuous loop until a recent Proton Experimental update that made it timeout after a while)

I hope someone at 343 sees this thread and realizes how weird this situation is and do something about it…

Like, I wouldn’t be mad if they came out and said “we are Microsoft’s baby so we will not support Linux”, that makes sense (even though Microsoft openly “embraces” Linux).
The reason why I’m mad about all of this is that they added the file yet has said absolutely nothing about it and even the support is acting as if the file doesn’t exist.

I opened a ticket on this. Support asked for a picture/screenshot of the issue. And here we are.

“Can you please take a picture of the game not being supported?” Gotta love automatic responses that fail to be helpful at all.

Seems strange for a company to not release a title on a new platform when it’s literally ready-to-go. I’d bet there’s some legal hiccup that’s preventing them from going through, like game liscencing for all these games on handheld platforms or something.

No such thing is holding them back except maybe pride (of having their game running on Linux and none of it being the result of THEIR work), laziness (not giving a flying flip about the SteamDeck or this new Linux gaming ecosystem that is taking shape these days) or fear (fear of this resulting in an influx of cheaters to the game because the Linux EAC component or their game might not be totally secure)…

My pre order for the Steam Deck is supposed to come in here soon so hopefully they fix what ever issue they have with getting MCC to work properly. Would love to play Halo on the go or when I am lying down in bed.

You can still play the game without anticheat but it’s less fun of course, dual booting with Windows 11 is not that hard if you really want to play MCC online, I’d rather see SteamOS being supported tho, it would open the door to the Linux ecosystem and much more people than just SteamDeck owners…

Umm kind of but it is pretty buggy last time I checked due to lack of working sound.

Windows 11 has a working sound driver now, it’s just a little capricious sometimes…

Changing to Windows is not worth it…too many downsides and should not be forced to be able to play the game. Steam Deck is meant to be on Linux.

The issue with EAC right now on proton is that it searches for “wine64” files rather than “win64” so technically it is enabled, just not configured correctly.

I’m not saying you should change from SteamOS to Windows overall but just dual booting isn’t hard if you’re a little techy savy…

I’d rather not waste space on 2 OS’s on a portable device just because some dev’s can’t be bothered to support more platforms. I’d rather just install more games and it’s the main reason why I bought a 1tb micro-sd. If I want Windows that badly I’d just turn on my laptop instead.

I totally agree with you on that point but well, there are things as we’d like them to be and things as they are and if we have issues with things as they are we should find solutions that are in our reach to solve those issues…

So yes ideally I want MCC to work on SteamOS, I was one of the first to advocate for it on this forum and I’m resolved to convince 343 to make the jump, in the meantime I’ll do what I have to do to enjoy the game tho, I was always planning on dual booting my device anyway ^^

It got support but you need to install an entirely new OS no? Or did I read wrong? I want it to work on Steam OS normally on SD.

It already works on SteamOS, you just won’t get access to the multiplayer part of the game…

Anyone with a SteamOS install can check if the new update changes anything?
