Steam Workshop Support

Anyone know what the latest is on 343i’s plans to support the Steam Workshop for MCC? There are SO many great mods for Halo, would really love to see this function added. I found a reddit post (https://www.reddit.com/r/halo/comments/u1gern/steam_workshop_support_coming_to_the_mcc_this_year/) which seems to suggest it’s coming this year. Is that true?

If you actually want 343 feedback, you’re better off using Twitter.

I don’t use twitter. Kind of sad that posting directly at the source is less seen than on social media.

don’t waste your time on twitter, social media sucks. if you have no follwers, you might as well be shouting in a field in the middle of nowhere. as no one responds to messages unless you look popular.

developers use social media as an excuse to ignore the community as they pick and choose who to respond to.

have a complaint? don’t wanna hear it. ignore.

at least on forums your post is out there for everyone to see. post something on twitter and it’s lost in a see of nothing.

devs should go back to forum interaction, they might get on better with the community.

Yeah I agree with all points made. Also for a developer as big as 343i they could pay someone to admin the forums, interact with real fans who care enough to spend their time posting. It’s like the iron curtain over there though, just absolute radio silence except for surgical PR here and there to your point.

all they have on the forums is auto moderation bots and the occasional real person mod if something is posted that the bots miss which they don’t like.

I severely hope that someone from 343i is scanning the forums occasionally for a temperature check on the fan bases wishes.

Also the fact that the Community Managers only respond to softball tweets in a system that only allows a small amount of characters is really egregious. Real conversations of merit can’t happen with so little words.

While it’s great to support Steam Workshop, what about Xbox & windows platforms?
My thought is if Microsoft develops a mods manager that can be used for all their own games, wouldn’t that be a win-win? And there’s no need to negotiate with a third party.

(Sorry English is not my native language, I use Google translate)

I understand perfectly! I think some of the issue with rolling something like that out across consoles is that they have a half-life whereas supporting PC will live indefinitely.

Want to know this too. Most recent update just came out and nothing about it.

I don’t expect them to talk about Steam workshop until the Halo 4 and H2A mod tools are released. It’s still the creation phase which is getting the mod tools out, afterwards would be the consumption phase.

Do you know what the ETA on that is?

Unfortunately no. I can’t even find the original blog post where they laid out their creation to consumption plan for mods. It looks like it was lost in the shuffle to the new website format.

It will most likely come in the next content update, but at the current rate will probably release next year.

Biggest thing I’m waiting on. Really want Steam Workshop support to make playing modded stuff with friends far easier.

1000% especially for the casual community which let’s be honest most of us are. It would give the game even more infinite replayability, sort of like when they released the Custom Games Browser, but even more radical.

Unquestionably the best work 343i has ever done was on MCC. Whoever they had working on that back in the day when they were releasing seasonal content should be promoted. I heard part of the problem with why 343i’s Halo can feel soulless is because they are cycling out contractors constantly and so no one central team was really working on development all the way through.

I hope they “integrate” it with the custom games browser, maybe not when they implement it but at least later. And with “Integrate it” i mean like DooM mods where you just try to enter a server and the game downloads the files or send you to the workshop page. That would make MCC a really timeless game

No ETA on this, probably when/after H4/H2A mod tools release. But according to SteamDB theres a workshop depot for MCC

As I understand it, workshop support is in the works still. I’m fine with waiting until mod tools come out for Reach and 4.
