Steam vs Xbox App - Performance Difference

Anyone know why as of today (pre-update) the Xbox App version of Infinite is suddenly performing worse? I used it from Nov 15th till today, with no issues. 144 fps capped and never dropped a frame on my PC on low settings.

Suddenly, I wake up today and I’m not even able to hit 120 fps idling in the menu. And I’m dropping below 100 in-game. It’s constantly cycling from 110-115 fps idling in the menu and in-game I’m averaging 90-95 fps. Well below the 144 fps capped that I was playing at last night.

I thought maybe the update would fix it, or maybe it was a driver issue with my card. But I’m on the most recent driver, and the update did not fix it.

But on the Steam version. I’m sitting at the 144 fps capped and not dropping any frames.

What’s going on with the Xbox App version?

Dunno if this helps, but I initially got the game through the pc Xbox app. Usually I’d play with mates on steam and I noticed back then it took me considerably longer to get past the halo ring/ loading screen and to the press start menu than they did.

So I installed on steam and deleted the Xbox app version and yeah. Runs like a dream on steam.

Check your min and max frame rate settings.

I second, make sure your min and max frame rate are the same and play through Steam. Maybe check a driver update

It’s the same min/max (72 and 144) on both versions of the game. Vsync is on. It makes no performance difference on the Xbox App version if I turn off Vsync.

Driver is the same as well and up to date as I’m testing both versions.

Steam version runs at 144 fps capped to my monitor refresh rate, and doesn’t drop a frame.

Xbox App version dips to 115-120 in the menu, struggles to get over the 120 mark. In a match I’m seeing 95-105 fps.

It never happened before yesterday. It ran at 144 fps and didn’t drop a frame on either. The only difference between them, as some others have said, is that the Steam version of the game seemed to spend less time on a loading screen.

On the Xbox App version I spent significantly more time loading and less time looking at the little map teaser before a game started.

On the Steam version it’s reversed. Hardly any loading screen time, lots of time looking at the pre-game map teaser.

Edit: Resolution scale is also at the lowest setting on both versions of the game. I’m not running it at 1920 x 1080, or upscaled. And I’m using the low graphics preset on both versions with the same accessibility and UI settings. Same controller settings.

And you replied as I was editing this @rilakkumakitten :joy:, that does happen with the Xbox App version to me as well. I always wait for it to get to the start screen before I assume I’m safe because sometimes that second instance is 10-15 seconds behind the first and shows up right around the time the 343 logo intro is on the screen.

Something I noticed happened a lot to me on Xbox app was it would launch several instances of the Infinite client. So I’d be playing one but have others in the background. I don’t get that with Steam.
