now this is something ive thought about in halo, and whether or not it needed it. in halo 4 and reach there werent many quiet moments save for a couple of missions, like in the old ones. you know, like sleeping grunts, or patrolling jackals. i really liked these moments in the old halos and thought them quite fun, but waking up enemies was so easy and would usually trigger a full scaled invasion of your face. this was very evident in halo reach during the stealth missions with jun. it wasnt really… well, you know, stealthy. my question to you, community, is should halo have a stealth mechanic? im talking stealth assassinations, enemies not always knowing exactly where you are, enemies seeing you out the corner of their eye and thinking ‘was that something? naw’ instead of seeing you for 0.5 seconds and commencing a full barage. i know halo isnt about really forced stealthy scripted sections, but when im cloaked and crouching behind an elite, i dont expect to be drop kicked in the face cause he some how knows im there. but at the same time, i dont want to completely alter the mechanic of the ai and mess with that classic halo stealth feel where its a bit of fun but not necessary. what do you think? to stealth or not to stealth?
I want Stealth! I do! I want it! Fun stealth with enough realism. There is active cameo in halo. There is promethean vision in halo. I’ve been recently playing dishonored. I want noise, enemies to have to actually cry out for help before their allies know.
I’d like to see a mission in the campaign similar to the stealth missions in Call of Duty campaigns (knock CoD all you like, their campaigns are hella fun in my eyes). The Chief would be equipped with silenced versions of weapons already in the game, including the sniper (however these silenced variants would only be available during the stealth mission, nowhere else), and would have to sneak through Covenant defences, silently taking out Covies as he did so. Perhaps Blue Team could assist him, e.g. Linda sniping targets Chief can’t get a shot on, Fred and Kelly taking out Elites that are in Chief’s path via choke holds or slitting their throats etc.
I would say that they could use some improvement, but I don’t want to see mandatory stealth sections. I want guns blazing to always be an option. I’m fine with the guns blazing approach being discouraged in some places (such as there being a lot of covenant and if you are spotted they bring in reinforcements), but I don’t want being spotted to result in am automatic/near automatic game over. Oh, and please allow a return to stealth. As is, once you are spotted its practically impossible to make the enemy loose track of you. And if you are spotted in one area, please make the covies smart enough to alert their buddies in the next section. It makes no sense to me that if you spend 5 minutes clearing area A, that area B would have no idea anything was up. The only way they realistically would not know is if you managed to kill the guys (elite leaders?) who can call in the alert and prevent a grunt or other enemy from running off to warn the others.
I was going to rage about the idea of stealth. However …
Your idea and implementation is AMAZING. I would be a hundred percent being one stealth mission with blue team.
oh dont get me wrong, its still an option if you want to play that way, thats what halos all about. i just mean do you want to see more set up for these sections and better mechanics should you choose to be stealthy?
oh i was gonna say in my original post, credit goes to Aokiji ICE TIME for the idea of making this post, he made an interesting thread on something similar. i dont know how to edit posts so i had to do it here…
