The flaw with map voting in the past is if a popular map came up it was guaranteed to be played, making other maps get played significantly less frequently. That’s why it was scrapped during MCC.
Mario Karts map voting system however let’s you vote for 3 different maps. Then a random number selector picks a random users vote rather than the most popular one. That way everyone’s choice has a pretty fair chance of coming up rather than it just being the one map over and over and over.
There are people who absolutely don’t want to play Behemoth and Launch Site (i think those are the 2 most hated maps right now). If someone does want to play one of those and the game picks that choice, those people who hate it will still quit that match. The chance of getting that map would get lower, but it doesn’t solve the problem with people quitting because of a map as some people would pretend it would.
Yet, at the same time it would create other problems:
The most popular map would be picked so much that people would get bored, since it’s getting realy repetative.
People who want to play a not so popular map, would get frustrated because they almost never see there beloved map.
People who don’t like a popular map would get frustrated since they have to play most matches on that map they don’t like.
I think because of those three problems the current system is just better.
Said it before and will say it again… What needs to be made is a match composer that let’s players select the game types and maps they want that way they always get games on maps they want. This feature should be achievable by now in gaming. Granted the more specific your selections the slower your matching may be but at least you are guaranteed to play what you want to play.
Only if you allowed more than one veto. Think Halo 3 where they show one map and Gametype, and if you veto then anything else in the pool can appear. It’s better than a voting system.
I don’t think they need to ‘steal’ it, as much as they just need to allow for the crappier maps to be less frequently. They did well in removing the open garbage fest map from ranked, but it is still on the arena, and it is soooo terrible.
